How old were you your first time?

I'm going to assume that everyone here's looked at somebody else and realized they're seeing things through their own eyes, things you can't see, at least from their perspective. How old were you when you realized different people see different things and have different experiences?

When I figured out when I asked my parents a question that they'd both give a different answer.

They must have regretted me figuring that one out. Suddenly I wasn't satisifed with just asking one of them a question.

That was kindergarten, so 4-6 years old.

And then later I discovered when I asked the same question at a different time, I'd also get a different answer. That was like discovering magic. They must have regretted that even more.

edit: though thinking about it, that's when I knew I knew. It's wholly possible that I didn't know I knew at a point before that.

same, basically everyone becomes self aware at 4 years old.

Just a little bit of bitching here; this thread got kicked from the philosophy forum near-instantly but my request for my other thread to be renamed hasn't happened yet?

How in the everloving fuck is this topic more suited to general discussion that it is to philosophy? I was fucking literally asking about self and when people realized other people had their own self.

Damn, good question. Is that actually a thing? I don't think you realize it consciously, it's just something unconscious, at least for me it was. Maybe it's just because I'm a sensitive person, but I feel like that knowledge has always been with me.
Well, when I was about 8 or 9 I was looking at this other kid and was like "he can see me the same way I can see him", it was kind of weird because a thought just leaped into my head and it's the first time that happened to me (as far as I remember, at least).

I can't read minds of mods, but by philosophy do you mean deep thoughts?

Your first post is more of a "hey guys how did this go for you?" which in some sense might fit better into a casual general discussion.

Deep thoughts ought to be about piercing some deeper knowledges and such.

Like if you accompanied it with some studies as well as your interpretations on why the jews are evil.

I think it's less cut and dry than that. As in, you always kind of know that as a child, sure, but I didn't really %100 understand the implications of that until mid-adolescents (let's say 14 or so) and I know a decent amount of adults who basically believe anyone who has a different perspective than them is being in some way malicious.

You just phrased the question poorly, I'd say. It doesn't sound deep enough; if I were going to pose the question to make it sound high-minded I'd ask something along the lines of (e.g.) "What is the root of self-consciousness?" With a subtitle of "When does it start? Where does it originate from?" etc., etc. As it is the focus is too narrow and doesn't allow for enough long-term discussion.

Well, when I was taught philosophy it was mostly learning about the self, myself, yourself, they're both selves, my question was asking when you first realized other people had selves as well (although I'll admit I worded it badly). I may not have worded it well, but I think it belongs in the philosophy board more than GD, hence why I posted it there in the first place.

Eh, whatever...
