How screwed would this person be?

I heard a story about someone (clearly not me) buying a used car about a decade ago from some old couple. The buyer found a brick of pot in a compartment underneath the car while doing some repairs. Pot was still very illegal at the time. It showed signs of being in there for some time as the plastic wrap was rotting off, possibly for at least 5 or 8 years.

The exceptional individual thought "do the right thing" and came close to bringing it to the local police station but realized walking into a glowie station with a brick of pot and saying "hey officer I found illegal drugs hidden in my car, no clue how they got there lol totally not mine lol" is probably a retarded idea so it got tossed in the trash instead.

Years later this story got me thinking, if the truly exceptional individual went through with their plan of 'doing the right thing' how screwed would they of been?

the cops might confiscate your vehicle and search it for more drugs
they'll try to track down the previous owner and search them for drugs
they might even get a search warrant for your own home and search for drugs there

going to the cops with something like that is really bad idea overall. you have nothing to gain from it, but it can bring you all sorts of trouble, plus the police will now remember you as "that weirdo guy with a pound of weed" which could come back to bite you in the ass in the future.
if something like this happens to you (you suddenly find yourself in posession of contraband) your best option is to dispose of it quietly, leave no evidence, and don't talk about it to anybody, ever.

personally i wouldn't, you have nothing to gain and no moral obligation to hand it in, you never know how they will react especially if their quotas are low and the quantity would be considered "intent to distribute" or what ever they call it. or if you just catch them in a bad mood they might just decide to fug up your life.
You did the right thing.

Here is a lengthy response to your question in video form:

Short answer, never talk to the police because you never know how what you say may implicate you. It is very likely all they'll see is a person with a lot of pot and you'll end up charged with possession with intent.

You people, idk sometimes.

If you went to a police station in most areas with a brick of pot and said "I got a car and found this brick of pot in it, here you go" their response would be "Oh wow, that's really weird, thank you for bringing this in. Be careful there isn't anything else in your car, do you want us to take a look?" and if you said "No thank you, I looked it over pretty well" they'd say "Ok, well thanks" and that would be that.

Why would a drug trafficker or something bring a brick of pot to the police station? The only person who'd hand in a large amount of old drugs would be someone who found a large amount of old drugs. You wouldn't be screwed at all.

People online with this absurd vision of every single law enforcement officer out there as this scheming little goblin rubbing their hands wondering how they can screw over the citizenry today. That might be the case when you're dealing with federal agents sometimes, but that's an outrageously unfair portrayal of your average local police official.

I'm skeptical of police because of a encounter I had with them in the past. Some guy got thrown out of a truck at gun point right in front of my house and they ripped out his earrings and sped off, the guy was bleeding everywhere. I assume the guy who got thrown out stole from them or something based off the yelling I heard.

I called the police for him and he threw a drug syringe into my yard so he wouldn't get caught with it. The popo found it and they were treating the whole ordeal as if I was somehow involved in some shady shit, I stopped cooperating and told them to either leave or arrest me.

They were really pressing me on the matter it was weird.

Not all of them are bad of course, I've had good encounters with the glowies before but all it takes is 1 bad cop to fuck your life over
