How would the war in Ukraine be prevented if Trump had a second term in 2020 instead of 2024?

I'm curious since people have got me going on this topic.

We all know what happened, but what if...

How would Trump have prevented the war in Ukraine if he won in 2020? Additionally, would Hamas have attacked Israel if Trump was president in 2020?

I invite you to get creative with your answers.

The serious answer:

Putin invades in 2022 as in reality and Trump plays Chamberlain leading to a Russian victory. Similar to what we're seeing discussed now, Ukraine cedes a portion of its territory (possibly more than 20%).

Hamas almost certainly attacks in 2023 as in reality. Trump's reaction is probably pretty similar to Biden but without any of the tut-tutting. Democratic politicians are likely in a much better position because they won't have the blood of tens of tthousands of Palestinians on their hands.

The war in Ukraine happened for 3 reasons in my view

1. Resuming of hostilities of the US under the Biden Administration
2. The humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan that made the US look weak
3. Russia underestimating Ukraine

I'm of the opinion Putin would much rather be aligned with the West than China given the proximity of Russia to China and occasional China's revanchist flareups. A friendly US even if it got a bloody nose from Afghanistan would likely have likely stopped it from happening. However since Biden burned that bridge Putin thought he could score and easy win on the world stage like Crimea and weather the temporary sanctions because Europe was reliant on Russian Gas.

Of course history didn't play out this way, but I think the simple fact of having a friendly America in a Second Trump term would've kept Putin from pulling the trigger.

Your total lack of context and understanding almost surprised me until I remembered this was the thunderdome

Who knows.
With Trump in the White House, the chain of diplomatic escalation would have maybe not led to an invasion.

If Russia would have attacked the same way, I think it would have turned out similarly, with Russia taking and holding most of the territories they claimed, but the Ukrainians preventing further big gains.

Him being actively interested in ending hostilities would have been a big factor, Biden and the EU just supported Ukraine with the only acceptable goal being "total victory".

Did everyone forget that Russia did attempt to do just this during Trump's first term? What happened was that Trump launched missiles at a Syrian base. Which had the knock on effects of telling the shit stirrers of the world that Trump wasn't going to fuck around like Obama with endless appeasements and backroom deals.

Hence why the Middle east calmed the fuck down, North Korea formally entered a peace treaty with South Korea and Russia had to go through all those hoops to organize a referendum to occupy Crimea and backing pro-Russian separatists in the Donbas rather than directly entering all out war the first go around.

The reason they did it under Biden was because Biden's admin was practically begging him to do it by selling weapons and making anti-Russian treaties with all of Russia's neighbors. They wanted this war so they could enter cold war 2 electric boogaloo to launder more money through classified defense spending like they did in the first cold war.

There were two strong deterrent factors during Trump's first term: the Orange Man's disinterest in letting Ukraine into NATO (which meant that Russian paranoia wasn't being stoked) and the price of energy (which was low enough to keep Gazprom from being a tremendous cash cow.) The US and Russia were fine with Ukraine as a de facto neutral buffer state so there was no need for the cost and bother of a war.

Because Trump was unpredictable

Trump claims he told Putin in a phone call that if Russia moved on Ukraine, he would melt Moscow. Did this really habben? If it did, was it merely Trumpian bombast and bluster? Who knows. But the US awkshoolly did melt 50ish Russian mercenaries and ~100 Syrians in Syria from the sky when they and some pro-Assad militias/Syrian army soldiers tried to attack a US military outpost in February 2018. After that, how could Putin be sure what Trump would or wouldn't do?

Trump would have prevented it by giving Putin vodka. Not just any vodka. The best vodka, true American vodka, the vodkaest of vodka, so yuge and bigly vodka that Putin would be too drunk to invade, it would be awesome, there would be vodka everywhere, it would be the finest vodka ever.
