Hundreds Of Washington State Ballots Destroyed In Drop Box Fire

Hundreds of election ballots were destroyed early Monday morning after a ballot box caught fire in the Washington state city of Vancouver, Clark County Elections Auditor Greg Kimsey confirmed to Forbes on Monday—the second incident of its kind in the area.

A ballot box at a public transit center was set on fire after someone stuck an incendiary device to the outside of the box that sparked the flames, according to the local Fox station, though Kimsey said he could not comment on what started the fire.

Ballots had not been picked up from the box since Saturday morning, and Kimsey said “hundreds” were destroyed.

Anyone who dropped their ballot in the box at Fisher's Landing Transit Center after 11 a.m. Saturday can contact Clark County Elections for a replacement. Kimsey said his office will be modifying its ballot retrieval schedule in response to the incident.

The Vancouver Police Department plans to issue a press release with more information later Monday.

This is not the first ballot box fire to be reported this election season. In a similar incident, a suspicious device was reported to have damaged a ballot box early Monday in southeast Portland, Oregon—just miles from Vancouver, Washington. A fire in the box was reported at about 3:30 a.m., according to local news outlets, but there was no information yet available as to how many, if any, ballots were damaged. Kimsey said he could not speak to if the two fires were related. A man was arrested in Phoenix Thursday after allegedly setting fire to a United States Postal Service mailbox that had several early voting ballots inside, though police said his motives were not political.

There is a tight congressional race in the Washington state district in which the ballot box fire was reported Monday. In Washington's 3rd Congressional District, Republican candidate Joe Kent is running to unseat Democratic incumbent Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a rematch of Kent and Gluesenkamp Perez’s tight 2022 race. On Thursday, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., visited the district to campaign for Kent, and said “My presence here shows you how important this district is to all of America."

I hope it's all blue ballots unless some antifa guys was tipped then lots of these boxes contained red ballots.
Keep in mind that Antifa are all idiots. They're just as likely to blow themselves up as take out their actual target. Anyway, this is fucked up. I don't care who or why, it's abhorrent behavior and has no place in a civilized society. If they are caught, it should be a felony and prosecuted to the fullest extent. (Which is very optimistic, I know. It's still Washington, lol.)

A lot of people in Vancouver actually seem to pride themselves on not being Portland. Maybe because they're right across the border from north Portland, which is historically where all the black slums were and is still extremely run down and trashy. They've repeatedly voted against expanding light rail across the river because they don't want all the homeless encampments and feral drug addicts and fiery riots and nude cyclists spreading north. They were in the news a couple years ago because of Proud Boy activity there. There were mom protests at schools during covid because of resistance to mask requirements for kids. A citizen group got the public library system to require background checks for volunteer readers after they held a couple drag queen story hours and it seems like they never had any more after that (:story:).

Politically Vancouver is very divided. In 2020, Biden won the county (Clark) by less than a percent and Trump won the congressional district (#3) by less than a percent. And as the article states the congressional election is also close as always, the seat goes back and forth between between parties. It wouldn't take very many ballots to flip the congressional district either way for a house seat.

The western part of the city (including the most dense areas along I-5, "downtown," and the WSU campus) is in legislative district 49. District 49 has all democrats in state legislature.

But this particular drop box is actually in east Vancouver, in district 17. Its state senator and representatives are all republicans.

Part of me hopes that when the music stops on this United States of ZOG, that all the neo Nazis and preppers in Eastern Oregon and Washington state engage in some Yugo tier sectarian violence.
