I think spook lights are probably a type of energy being that eats moths

They could be anomalies that escaped The Zone. If anyone sees one make sure to throw a bolt or nut at them
 
But bats already fly around at night eating moths and they do it with a lot more energy efficiency.

They're like ducks, the fact they still exist in the wild almost seems like an oversight by nature.

Saber tooth tigers? Dead. Velociraptors? Dead. Megalodon? Dead.

Ducks and moths? Still thriving.

Bat: Has to actively fly around
Spook light: Lazily hovers around attracting moths to it, almost more like a Venus fly trap than a critter

It's just government agents conducting experiments on the local moth populace.
 
idk, but they're great pets for enchanters to charm. Sure, they get outclassed at later levels but they stick around for awhile.
