I know this question is basically irrelevant now, but I was watching old episodes of Top Gear and was surprised by how many cars were offered in a diesel & gasoline/petrol configuration back then. Of course it was basically game over for most of them post-dieselgate, just pretend you have a time machine or something.

Main advantage of diesel is efficiency, also diesel engines are usually better when it comes to torque.

I had not heard of diesel gate , that is hilarious. I would choose gasoline though because I know very little about diesel

Diesel. It's a pain in the ass in the cold but I could probably convert it to biodiesel if/when shit hits the fan.

when i bought my car it was gasoline, so i guess that answers the question for me.

With a car I'd probably go gas but with a truck I'd pick diesel any day. Except those gutless piece of shit Ford 6.1L and 6.9L diesels from the 80's. I would really like a 4x4 diesel/electric hybrid pickup truck but I don't think such things exist.
