Imageboards vs Old School Forums - which one sucks less

Personally I'm more of a fan of imageboards. I've been on many a forum and imageboards, and while I like both, I always find myself going back to imageboards. The culture traditional forums with profiles and avatars (ratings especially) always seems to create an environment of whoring for ratings and perpetual circlejerking of older members and newer members sucking old member cock. Probably one of the biggest motivations in old school forums is getting bigger and bigger numbers on your profile and maybe some badges. What I always liked about imageboards is the anonymity (sometimes) put the quality of your post over everything else. Sure tripfags and avatarfags come and go, and the sheer 800 mile per hour shitposting that can occur on less moderated imageboards can stifle any kind of real discussion, but on more niche imageboards that usually ceases to be a problem. I dunno. Both have their pros and cons, but I definitely lean towards one much more over the other.

4chan was never good, it just was something new and epic, but god damn it I just want to go back to 2012 and raid the Jesus chatline again.

I don't read 4chan directly because you have to wade through a lot of shit to find the good content, and any good content will end up on reddit anyway. Reddit is also mostly a waste of time because letting post ratings dictate what gets viewed encourages shitposting (reposts, recycling jokes, stealing material). Well-moderated old school forums flow the best for me because forum threads feel like conversations, and even if they have ratings, the ratings don't necessarily dictate what is seen.

Just because of actual user-to-user interaction, and having an identity. I don't hate 4chan, don't get me wrong. I've made plenty of friendships through it (somehow) and it's enjoyable to be anonymous and be a dick. But my forum friends I made back in like 2010 are friends who'll stick with me for a long time. Most of my 4chan "friends" will probably end up dead in a sewer drain.

Forums have trackable post hstories which I like and is very handy. Imageboards prevents cringe forum celebrities.

I miss when many boards on 4chan were ridiculously active and you could follow a thread for a couple hours with hundreds of replies. Now the only boards that get that are shit like /pol/ that I couldn't be less interested in outside of the occasional happening. The others that busy have nearly inhumanly shitty moderation by triggered idiots who do nothing but constantly delete shit that they don't personally like even if everyone who actually uses the board wants to talk about it. I think moot seeded the mods with SJWs before he left as a final fuck you to the userbase he'd come to hate.

Forums, its just what I'm used to. I used to lurk Youchew a long time ago so I understand how shitty Oldfag Oligarchies can be, but it can be fun interacting with a community and slowly gaining the respect of other users.

They both suck for their own reasons. Forums lead to personality bullshit. Imageboards lead to people assuming that everyone who disagrees with them is the same one guy who posts 50 times a day and they're probably right.

Hate to be a fence sitter, but it really comes down to the individual forum or imageboard. I was leaning towards forums but then remembered NeoGaf and ResetEra's existence.

Reddit is completely fucking unusable because anything "not safe for brand" gets memoryholed almost instantly.

As for forums and *chans it all depends on the moderation and culture.

Say what you want about GameFAQs. But I made a lot of friends on there that I am still frends with after many years. I never posted a lot on 4chan. I did post on Maxfag/Stamina Rose/Lolcow Farm. But it is't the same place anymore. I was there from the beginning when it was Maxfag and full of Pixyteri and other legit lolcow discussion. Now Lolcow Farm is full of girls from PULL making threads about girls they are jealous of who shoop too much and trying to clandestinely 32 inch waist-chan without sounding like they are 32 inch waist-channing. Forget it. I can barely look at that boat full of sandy vag autism anymore.

I have always stuck to traditional forums. I don't do social media. You cannot like me on Facebook because I don't have one. I'd rather have a website than post everything on instagram or whatever. I don't post pics of myself or put my face in videos because I don't want people identifying me. I guess I'm oldschool. I'm from the internet wild west days before we all had to worry about triggering feminists and troons on twitter. Soon we'll all be extinct.
