Some youtuber guy began funding a program to compete with IGN so indie developers could compete with all the triple A bullshit to try and save our games. absolute legend:
https://fakeportal.com/
you can sign up for his newsletter there and supposedly it'll tell you when the website goes up and will have hundreds of indie titles available on it from day one so small creators can't get snuffed out by corporate noise anymore and we can kiss IGNs sorry ass goodbye. and I'm down for it. anything that steals money away from EA, Activision, and Ubisoft gets nothing but my praise.

Supposedly it's going to list out all the games with tags to make them searchable and tell you their company philosophies, team size, budget they spent on them and all kinds of stuff like that.

Weird name and what does that have to do with IGN? No shill news that isn't for indies?
it will be a website like IGN when it launches. except triple A is excluded. from what I understand. like a giant gaming database.

take a looksie:

I don't see this working as is. The reason old gaming sites and magazines were good wasn't the fact they covered more games, but because they were able to showcase information the public didn't have. Just listing games isn't useful or entertaining, it needs something extra like interviews, reviews, or a community. If I just want to find underrated games, I'll use Steam.

"and tell you their company philosophies, team size, budget they spent on them and all kinds of stuff like that." - you're covered bro.

call me a negative nancy but when I hear anything gaming related with "Indie" added to it i think of the endless sea of slop with maybe a few good ideas sprinkled in there, but otherwise rarely enough budget to fully realise it.
AAA is its own pile of shit for a whole host of reasons. I just dont think Indie gaming in general is all its hyped up to be. I just wish the AA market was bigger, honestly.
Fake Portal's website said:
Everyone likes to say: “Play Indie Games.” or “Support Indie Developers.” These are wonderful sentiments that usually end with those statements.
this in particular worries me because the only people you ever that from are faggots who call themselves "game developers" on twitter who frankly give more of a shit about their political ideology than actually making a good game, and unless im missing something it sounds like to me they're trying to cater to that type of crowd by "going the extra mile", and giving them a site to congregate around.

If nothing else, I hope this site is actually critical of the games they put on there and dont just mindlessly praise them for being independent.

he should call up @Mooger Meng to make him part of the editorial team for your nigger wordcount quota.

if being a negative nancy is stating the obvious then you are a negative nancy. covering indies and shieet is redundant as steam has groups, owning a website and being a youtuber to get like some sort of catalogue going on? eh, if he could get people with specific game tastes then it would be alright for a few weeks depending on the viewers.
it deserves a golf clap for good intentions but hell is yadda yadda... especially on the age where the medium is going to lose a lot of weight, i would mention ZP/Second Wind but that is a different can of worms destroyed by sum fag ott.

I feel like I've given my throwaway email to a scam site but whatever. I hope it ain't a scam website because I'd much rather get a weekly email going "this game mite b cool" instead of having to skip around the twentieth BEST GREATEST INDIE GAMES OF THE THIRD WEEK OF SEPTEMBER video that's like 90% survivors clones, deckbuilders and city management sims.

just going to bump this because to me it's important and the shut down from earlier derailed it a little potentially as well as my other thread. (also I want the internet points.)

More of a DB I think or central information source (kind of like Wiki but not run by troons). but if you do want that we already have that here: https://indiegamenews.github.io/IndieGameNews/
So game journalism but for indie games.
