Whether big or small, adorable or not so much, animals are amazing and there's always more than meets the eye.

Discussion of all animals is welcome but please include at least one photo or video and three interesting facts about them.

Giant Wētā Bug
Wetapunga.jpg

That's not a shoop but the world's heaviest insect. Hailing from the jungles of New Zealand, they've remained mostly unchanged for 190 million years. Being unable to jump or fly, they're now close to extinction due to an overpopulation of rats finding them tasty. Their name comes from a Maori word meaning "God of the ugly things" and they certainly live up to their name.
(Spoiler: it's not blood but secretions from it's maw)

Irrawaddy Dolphin

These happy little bastards are one of only two species of dolphin that do not have a beak. They're from Southeast Asia and had a long history of cooperation with humans until industrialization.
Fisherman in India would call the dolphins to them by knocking on the side of their boats and the dolphins would help herd fish into their nets. Sadly they're creeping towards being endangered because of large scale fishing, which they're more susceptible to due to living closer to land than average species of dolphin
