Played First Light last week and I was entertained for the most part. Definitely not worth the 70 they were charging (I pirated it) but I'd probably pay 20-25 bucks for it. I went into the game blind and about four hours into the game it started reminding me of the Hitman games. Turns out it's made by the same company.

I'd bitch about the "diversity and inclusion" but I guess it "reflects modern Britain".

Things I liked/was entertained by:
  • The combat. Someone in this thread compared it to Sleeping Dogs. It's decent but it's no where near as good as Sleeping Dogs.
  • The locations were pretty good looking (with the exception of the African desert section).
  • The overall story was OK. It satisfied the action movie slop level of story.
Things they could've done better:
  • More vehicle sections, especially with the Valhalla. Driving a Land Rover into a shipyard/onto ships ain't it.
  • I liked that they tried to give you multiple options when trying to get through a road block but most of the options were a bit simplistic. They could've definitely made those a little more complex.
  • There were a lot of sections where they introduced a concept but only used it once or twice and never again.
  • Could've done a lot more with the social stealth aspect.
  • More open map navigation. The settings were nice but you're definitely railroaded through most of them.
  • Some of the levels were longer than they needed to be, especially in the mid-to-late game. I felt like the later levels became a bit of a slog/samey and I literally ran through a few levels just to try to get through the story.

The two most jarring things for me were:
This piece of shit was in the game

I realize Aston Martin (and to a lesser extent Jaguar/Land Rover) are quintessential "Bond" cars but this is just insulting.

The second thing was the DIVERSITY in the Africa section. We're in the territory of an African warlord. You'd think it'd be a bunch of child soldiers and absolute scum-of-the-earth PMCs but what do I see? The fucking multi-ethnic hipster district from the local downtown. I can write Lenny Kravitz being the warlord off as goofy but come the fuck on.

Playing this game made me want to play the NOLF games again.

I've been watching CohhCarnage's playthrough of First Light. I've gotten to the chess championship, and I've got two theories (one supposition and one wild-ass guess). THEIA will go rogue at some point, or already secretly has, because the company that created it is actually a bad-guy front (and because AIs in fiction always go rogue.) And Monroe has been 009 in disguise the whole time!

Never played the Bond game and I don't care about it. Finished the Hitman remake trilogy with SASO (Professional). It's pretty easy if you know what you're doing.
