DES MOINES, Iowa - An Iowa lawmaker plans to introduce what he calls the “suck it up, buttercup” bill to cut budgets at public universities that spend extra money on students upset about the presidential election.

Republican Rep. Bobby Kaufmann tells The Des Moines Register that the proposed legislation would target schools using taxpayer dollars to fund election-related sit-ins and grief counseling above and beyond what is normally available to students. He said the bill will also call for creating new penalties for protesters who block highways.

“I’ve seen four or five schools in other states that are establishing ‘cry zones’ where they’re staffed by state grief counselors and kids and come cry out their sensitivity to the election results,” Kaufmann said. “I find this whole hysteria to be incredibly annoying. People have the right to be hysterical ... on their own time.”

Speaking to CBS News, Kaufmann elaborated on his feelings: “That’s not how life works. My concern is if you think when adversity hurts you you’re able to press pause on reality, you’re gonna be hit with a strong slap on the face. You’re not going to get to do a time out.”

CBS Des Moines affiliate KCCI reports that University of Northern Iowa students and faculty gathered at three sessions to discuss the election and their fears. Spokesman Scott Ketelsen says no money was spent on those sessions. Students and faculty at Iowa State University held a rally, and University of Iowa student groups held events. The schools say no extra funds were spent on the events.

“This election was somewhat unique,” Ketelsen said. “It wasn’t like previous elections, so the response wasn’t like previous elections. And that’s OK. But people have to be able to sit down and have open dialogue and honest communication with one another.”

Protests haven’t been limited to college campuses in Iowa. More than 100 protesters shut down Interstate 80 in Iowa City for about a half hour on Friday night. Iowa State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Nathan Ludwig said troopers quickly cleared the Friday protest, but he said the event could have posed a threat to public safety.

Similar protests and rallies have been held nationwide following Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election.

KCCI reports Kaufmann is a controversial conservative figure in Iowa. LGBTQ youth groups have accused him of a witch hunt against them.

The bill still needs to be formally written, Kaufmann said, but he’s confident it will be well-received.

“I would be shocked to see it not pass,” he said.

Holy fuck, this is amazing. I'm sure people will start REEEEEEEing about their First Amendment rights, but I doubt the Founding Fathers envisioned a world where taxpayer money is going to sit-in sessions where college students cry about politics.

Michigan needs this.

I've received 10 emails in the last week, as well as another 12 or so school-sanctioned Facebook messages about the election. It's getting annoying as shit. People need to calm the fuck down and quit being cucks.

I can't believe we actually have to create legislation to deal with these sore losers...I still LOL'd at the name of the bill, though.

What's it been, nine days? I have the same message for the anti-Trump people that I have for the Confederate flag worshipers.

YOU LOST

Get over it!

Well quite. How is their freedom of expression being curtailed? They can still have cry ins if they want, just they can't force the college to pay for it out of public funds. Nobody's preventing them from demanding the waaaaahmbulance. Freedom of speech =/= right to an audience.

This is wasteful spending on creating new laws that help no one and can be used to hinder anybody (in a state that needs a lot of help getting back on its feet, in terms of economical growth and prosperity like Iowa.) - but WHO THE FUCK CARES if it means shutting these crybabies up and making them realize that sometimes... You just can't win! YOU. JUST. CAN'T. Fucking. WIN.

There are people in schools who need actual counseling and guidance and those resources are being wasted on these whiners. It needs to end and it's no surprise shit like this is happening. The only thing missing here is it happening nationwide, if not just in the red states where this is a noticeable issue in need of stamping out, so real progress by people willing to cope and get their asses back to work, or, willing to accept it and stay vigilant and educated and fight back properly against bad leadership / legislation (As in, without a need for violence, but actual proper protests with meaning behind them - which those started by SJWs don't and never have had! FACT.) that makes local and state govt's look bad, overall.

I'd call this bad legislation, myself - if it were actually hindering free speech and access to resources for the constituency at large. Too bad this hindrance is more than necessary, now that it's become a huge drain on resources people who need it the most actually need and can't get because of these whiners.

Godspeed, Iowa. GOD-Fucking-SPEED. Let's shut em' up!
