Your other alternative would be find some exchange in a CIS country, Kazakstan, Armenia, Tajikistan or Azerbaijan but you need a trustworthy personal relationship for that since Iran is under heavy sanctions.

I wouldn't invest in anything now since the banks are all closed and the currency will undergo an inevitable redenomination process. Depending on how this shakes out, I will be over there in 6 months to Tehran, also communication will be much easier once this is all over. A good chunk of Persian zoomers speak english from video games and school.

I use IraniCard.ir for my friends, it even lets you send via paypal to accounts they control, charge a flat $10 fee per transaction, then take a 6% conversion fee in Rial

For example if you send $100 right now, they take $10, convert the $90 to Rial = 131.6 million, take a fee of 7.9 million so your friend gets 123.7 million or $84.52

They already fully approved removing 4 zeros from the Rial in November, in fact they've been meaning to do this since 2019 but Covid happened which made them pause the law, which is why the 2021 series of banknotes has the last 4 zeros grayed out so to make the transition easy.


So the new Rial is supposed to be 146.35 to a dollar now, at the time the president signed the law on November 22nd, just a month and a half ago it would've been 112.20.

That's right the Rial has lost 30% of it's value in just 7 weeks.

To put that in perspective, in the original law voted on in August 2019 they were going to name the new currency Tomans which means at the time the exchange rate was 11,570 Rials to a Dollar meaning a Dollar would've been worth 1.16 Tomans
