Is Apoliticism a Good or a Bad Thing?

Is it OK or not to be apolitical?

  • It's OK. Not every single entity has to get involved in politics. I just wanna grill for God's sake!

  • It's not OK. It will cause hatred to be ignored and allowed to fester. Silence = Death and all that.

This post was originally much longer before I realized how autistic it was, so I'll keep it short.

For the past few years, especially with Trump's election, Corona-Chan, and George Floyd, you might have noticed a growing trend of normally apolitical people, corporations, and other entities "speaking out" about more political topics, with the general mindset that it is immoral to be apolitical or politically apathetic, especially if you have a large influence. Some even say that not speaking out about, for example, racism is akin to supporting and accepting it. At the same time, many people are sick and tired of what are normally apolitical entities virtue signaling about wearing a mask, donating to Black Lives Matter, or about how much they hate DRUMPF. Instead, they want them to focus on their specific topic, like breaking phones, making video games, airing SpongeBob, or making fucking fruit snacks, instead of hearing about such controversial subject matter like race or LGBT issues.

Ultimately, is it okay for some people or corporations to be apolitical and stay away from the debate or is it necessary for everyone, normally apolitical or not, to speak out about these types of issues?

Everyone needs a break, and anyone who says otherwise must be lying. Hardcore political activists and lobbyists might claim they live and breathe it but I'd imagine that passion is extremely rare just as it would be in every other aspect of life. I doubt most of them are thinking about it falling asleep or taking a dump, for example. You just need to unwind and let go and if you don't you go insane.

This is why I think most people get pissed at politics being injected into their hobbies, or at least the perception thereof. Most people play video games or watch movies or read or play music or sports to get away from the pressures of their lives, and while one could make the argument that sociopolitical exclusion in those things could make them stressors for minorities trying to take part in them, I think there's a fairly clear line that people are able to recognize. Cross that and you're gonna get pushback because just about everyone needs escapism of some kind. Apoliticism is not a bad thing writ large and shouldn't be taken as apathy. You can care without being switched on 100% of the time.

depends on what kind of apolitical you mean
"i don't talk about politics, especially not in public or at work" is reasonable and professional. in fact, it should be the norm.
"i don't care about politics and don't take sides" on the other hand is either an outright lie, or a sign of being a brainless retard. never trust someone who says this., they're either lying or mentally handicapped.

Being into politics is incredibly tiring sometimes. Like, whatever your political opinion, you will hear a bunch of people say how you are responsible for the death of democracy, or whatever it is they sperg about.

I can't blame people for avoiding politics.

I want to go back to the days where companies were politically neutral unless there was some law/policy coming up that would effect the business directly (e.g. late 2007 net neutrality stuff). It is so annoying seeing <CURRENT POLITICAL TREND FOR <CURRENT YEAR>> being email to me, being send to me via programs, infront of stores, etc. But no everything needs to be <WOKE> now. Heck even entertainment is now seeminly 100% politics first story second. I enjoyed 1984 not because of politics but because it was a damn good story, same with Animal farm and To Kill a Mockingbird.

It's not great to be apolitical, and I don't think being apolitical is even desirable. Politics should be the science of the greatest good that Aristotle described, but right now it's diluted (obviously). People in these black lives matter movements are looking for something good, but as the old saying goes "the road to hell is paved with good intentions," when politics is done right people will pave the road to Heaven, or at least a better place than we are now.
What you're seeing is a bunch of people who weren't very politically active become active through these protests. And the question is "are people better off becoming politicized?" and I think (with this specific circumstance) the answer is no. If being extremely paranoid and advancing a racial vengeance agenda is the affect of being politicized like this then why bother? This only puts more strain and stress on somebodies life, it doesn't cause happiness or fullness in a person, at best it's a great way to have instant gratification, at worst these people become violent.

Aristotle's general idea was "Politics is the greatest science because every other science is subservient to it" as in because politics is the science of the greatest good every other science only contributes to it, and there's nothing higher than it. And a lot of people aren't equipped to pursue the science of the greatest good so instead they do "lesser" things. This is the most important question you must ask before becoming politicized in a serious way (of course a lot of people just participate in politics as sort of like a sport, and for the most part there's nothing wrong with that): am I equipped to pursue politics as a science of the greatest good? and if the answer is no then they should put their effort into something else

Im apolitical per say, i have my opinions but i do not believe I can change anything even with my vote or not. I believe the current system we have in my country (Canada) will hold up generally fine no matter who is voted in. Im probably more conservative as im averse to changes in general with some of my belief leanign right or left depending on the subject. Maybe its bad that i dont bother voting but hey as long as im not directly impacted i prbably wont do anything.

To be quite honest, most democracy of having different elected leader essentially rotate out every few years suits me fine. No one party can make meaningful change that would piss off the other side and changes comes about when most parties agrees as it should be. The less power the government has to make sweeping changes the better.

People may have opinions, not everyone wants to hear them. Esepcailly when it comes to politics some times.

No one wants to know if you support Trump or Biden, just sell your damn product and leave your personal stuff out of it. This also applies to actors, artists and the various lolcows who try to talk politics like they know what it is.

Being apolitical is the best course of action because you're guaranteed to piss of the really autistic part of both sides.

Politics is tiring and boring and traps you into meaningless arguments. Enjoy yourself, go outside, read a book, watch some movies, or do what you love. The only people who make everything about their political views are absolute spergs trying to fill the hollow void in their life with anger.

the US obsession with politics is a sickness, especially considering the political issues that people are absolutely obsessed with have to do primarily with cultural and moral issues.

a big problem is that social media gives people the impression that their opinions matter more than they actually do, so people spend time thinking about coming up with the most thoughtful, or at least the hottest take, or at least a black fucking square, that could score them social media points. the legacy media rewards this behavior and engages with it as well. but i really think there's nothing good, rewarding, or beneficial to anyone that comes from being so completely obsessed.

i've "unplugged" from politics for about 3 months now. no twitter, no social media outside of this site i suppose---just read the local news headlines and articles. i don't feel particularly less informed than when i was obsessing, but i do feel much happier overall.

I'm publicly fairly apolitical, and privately have political ideas same as everyone else. Rarely do I discuss them publicly because honestly, I find people that talk politics all the time to be insufferable bores and I don't want to be that.

I'm fairly apolitical outside of the Farms, and while I do have political views and convictions, I also think politics should not be shoehorned into damn near everything, especially not trivial hobbies and common entertainment.

Don't get me wrong, political commentary and storylines can be good and entertaining but not if it's forced in. Not everything has to be "deep and meaningful"

There used to be three topics nobody discussed in public and only discussed in private when asked: Religion, Politics, and Sex.

Now everyone's either an atheist (be they fedora skeptic or wokepunk SJW), an Islamist, or some edgy traditionalist faggot. Everything is forced to be political. You can freely air your sexual kinks as often and as publicly as you want so long as you're a tranny or a wokepunk sow.

Then again, we've been in Clown World for so long that we're now playing 4D CarnEvil

Someone pointed out to me that in entertainment, a lot of people like to push things like "politics have always been a part of x". And in that they fail to differentiate between political themes (which can be throughout a work and fairly subtly woven in- Tolkien's dislike of overindustrialization and deforestation, for example) and direct political messaging where the message is the work, which only works much more sparingly and must be done with much more skillfully for the work to be enjoyable outside of the choir that already accepts that message. Heavy handed messaging is usually eye-rolling if you're not in the "nod in agreement" portion of the audience, especially if it's unearned.

“You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”

― Leon Trotsky

This applies to politics as well. You should be preparing yourself to stand for your convictions. Cancel culture will come for you and what you love. The govt will seek to control everything regardless of whether you care or not. You may not be able to influence the system but you must be aware of what is happening so that you are not blindsided.

Being political doesn't mean being partisan or prejudiced. It means understanding what is happening and acting with the understanding that everything you do has some significance.

Ostensibly the better informed you are the more agency you have, which should be a good thing. In the current political climate though it can definitely start to have diminishing returns to the point where your mental health suffers. I'd also argue that the more important topics are sidelined for simple sexy social issues that do nothing but stir up the bleating fanatics on either side.
I know few people who are by and large apolitical and they seem happy enough to just live their lives. Depending on your living situation your day to day life may not be affected much by politics of any kind.

Conciously opting out is better than engaging half heartedly or being so fucking dumb you actually damage the conversation. Can you imagine what parties would look like if they had to back their shit up with the voting base?
