there have been countless instances of when a movement or religion is inherited after the demise of the leader (a type of autocracy), it results in a civilwar or schisms. and always one branch revolves around another autocratic cult of personality

to cut short the chase, can gatekeeping/quality be maintained without turning autocratic? or masses will always turn against the democratic leader for appearing weak?

We humans are an incredibly creative species, and by necessity creativity requires destruction in order to tear down something else to make it anew. When the world is filled with the creations from past generations, then those creations must be in some ways destroyed in order to become the new generations creations. Naturally, the prior generations are not particularly happy to see their creations be destroyed and will try to clamp down on the new generations who will in turn inevitably rebel against them.

Autocracy, revolutions, etc. etc. are simply a part of this process. I am not saying the process is good, just that such conflicts are inevitable.

So while yes Autocracy is an inevitability, so are revolutions and liberation. They are all parts of the same cycle that has been going on since man first invented civilization.
