He was an physical anthropologist chased out of the club for positing that various categories of homo sapiens sapiens evolved at different times, different places and different rates. Wikipedia (link) is not a fan.
They basically shut him up in the early 1960s and that was the last anyone heard of him, despite the fact that he lived for 20 more years. Just curious if anyone has tracked down his books and read them.
Carleton Stevens Coon (June 23, 1904 – June 3, 1981) was an American anthropologist and professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He is best known for his scientific racist theories concerning the parallel evolution of human races, which were widely disputed in his lifetime[1] and are considered pseudoscientific by modern science.[2][3][4][5][6]
