It's true. In the military, that's one of the ways they treat you if you get heatstroke; stick a hose up your ass and blast you with water. (your body allegedly absorbs water faster through the colon, it's easier to administer to someone who's become faint and delirious, and it's a reliable threat to deter people from getting heatstroke in the first place)

Yeah, it's your large intestine that absorbs water from food- The last part of your digestive tract before your shitter. Your body keeps the food as liquid sludge for as long as possible, so it's easier to pipe through your gut, and only solidifies it by removing the water , as late as possible.
