is this counter-offer offensive?

Person A is selling something for $2000

Person B offers them $1700

Person A counters with $1900

Person B counter-offers with $1800 and an added stipulation that it gets delivered to their front door by the seller (a 2h drive)

Person A goes ballistic

Who was in the wrong here?

No one is wrong, but clearly, B is initiating the "negotiation" and their counter-offer doen't really seem to be reaching for middle ground, by me. If B said 1800 w/o stipulation, I imagine a deal could be made/met.

I could recommend to A to have instead have made an initial offer of 1600, to further the image of your reaching for a "middleground" for a bargain.

The one sperging out.

But I don't know what "ballistic" would mean here, there's a wide gradient of what that could be. In any case, if they don't like it, then just refuse to sell/buy it and that's it.

Starting that low risks the seller telling you to fuck off right away
When a seller walks away, unless it is a bluff, they (in my eyes) clearly have an offer in their pocket that matches yours.

And I'll be honest with you, I hate people, and negotiating so much, that I look forward to throwing things I own straight into the trash instead of taking time to resell them these days. It always bogs down to answering spam phonecalls and emails from pajeets.
