The various Stack Exchanges usually make for great comic relief whenever I'm looking up something on there. There's the sidebar with Hot Network Questions, and they often contain something funny or at least interesting to read. Here's a random snippet.

That is a great point, Islam as practiced really isn't a highly organized or monolithic religion. There's enormous differences in beliefs and practices between different Muslim populations and few of them adhere to much if any of these obscure rules. I think a Muslim from Saudi Arabia would find beliefs and practices in remote parts of Africa or Asia that are unrecognizable as Islam.

Many of the bad things people associate with Islam aren't even in the Quran, they're solely in hadith.

Of course the problem for them is they get lumped in with the Salafis and other fundamentalists who actually commit the terrorism, and are oftentimes its target.

To be fair, Bacha Bazi is an older afghanistani practice that the muslim governments tend to outlaw and shut down.

Case in point, the taliban outlaws it and punishes it with the death penalty, the US "allied" afghanis, and their government, basically openly practiced it, with instructions for US soldiers to not argue against or try to stop it.
