James May is not as entertaining without Wilman or Clarkson. - Simple As.

The Top Gear guys benefited from their specific combination of personality types. It made for great entertainment, but doesn’t translate well when they don’t have a facsimile to keep things moving.
The chemistry between those three is undeniable, but I don't think it's the be all and end all.

For instance, the relationship between Clarkson and Kaleb on Clarkson's Farm is just as entertaining as anything he did on TG/TGT, yet it's an entirely different dynamic. Kaleb is less than half Jezza's age, yet it's Kaleb that is in charge and he doesn't give a flying fuck about Clarkson's status as a big time celeb.

It also helps that Clarkson's Farm has a great cast of supporting characters like Gerald and Cheerful Charlie.

may's big trouble in little britian was excellent, his man lab was interesting. hes great if youre mildly autistic. our man in xxx was hit or miss. i liked
some of the japanese series but skipped most of italy and india.

He definitely has a niche, I liked him doing The Assembler that the toy series. Do agree that Man in Blank is just boring. I think outside of his niche, that is talking about hyper specific things slowly, he's really better as straight man to someone else rather than the lead.

I enjoyed top gear for like one episode. The second episode I watched was all the same jokes. Thats not exactly “chemistry”

“You’re short and pretty” (audience laugh track)
“Well at least I’m not a nerd like him!” (Audience laugh track)
[technical description of car] - “oh a nerd would say that! (Audience laugh track)
[ridiculous British supperlative] “this car is like getting your dick sucked by god! (Audience laugh track)
“Our bullshit challenge this week is to buy a car and put a chicken in it” (audience laugh track)
“I bought a car that everyone will love, and there’s a chicken!” (audience laugh track)
“I bought a classic car with a rich history that I will now explain…” - “shut up nerd! You’re a nerd so shut up!” (audience laugh track)
“lol I had trouble buying a car because I’m short and gay” (audience laugh track)
“That’s because you’re short and gay” (audience laugh track)
“Now it’s time it test this state of the art supercar on a quarter-mile loop that does absolutely nothing to demonstrate it, but we’re going to distract you from that with this amazing story: the guy driving the car is [additional retarded British superlative]”

Top Gears biggest benefit was their ability to make all the dialog seem conversational and unscripted. It made people think the show was real and not entirely fictional top to bottom. It's a pretty masterful subversion of reality TV in a way, even though I find it barely watchable.

I’d argue that Clarkson like any great actor or interviewer knows how to play to his co-stars/ interviewees. From what I’ve heard of people who worked or met him he knows how to read people and knows how to sell someone on something.

I don’t hate May, but he’s not as versatile as Clarkson or Hammond. He needs a co-presenter and those native guides were painful.

thread title is Richard Hammond erasure
The font is just teeny tiny like Hammond.

I’d argue that the three would change their roles seamlessly. They’d change dynamics depending on the subject matter. You’d have two on the offensive or defensive while one is in the opposite role.

Wilman was the 4th man who’d edit the script as needed and had Clarkson who was on the same wavelength.

James May: The Reassembler was kino and if you disagree you are a nigger faggot.
Correct opinion.

James May doesn’t try to be funny without Jeremy or Hammond, but he can still be accidentally funny. He’s usually just trying to be massively autistic, which is a lost art in television.

James May, the man on Top Gear who was constantly ridiculed for an extremely conservative and bland taste mixed with the kind of OCD only prisoners end up with, not as entertaining without his foil co-hosts?
I know the Farms is a source for outspoken individuals, but man you gotta dial it back a notch. Can't just say such controversial shit like that.

He at least has the decency to call himself a faggot for being a globalist faggot for Britain, but not elsewhere.

When you give May some autistic thing to handle for an hour he is pretty interesting, less so on more adventuring type of deal.

Hammond for me is the black hole of charisma when he isn't with the other guys.

I like James May's cooking show. That he has a woman he keeps in the back cupboard to fix things when he fucks up is hilarious.

Honestly I find James May more interesting than the rest of the trio. Toy Stories & the Reassembler were great shows.

I also liked Cars of the People as well, which is a Top Gear spin off if you haven't watched it.

So the grand tour is now over with?
The last special is being edited down and will be released in August.

Hammond is fine, but I’d argue that Clarkson is basically the secret sauce. If the Paddington Bear story about his Dad is true then I imagine that Clarkson just got a proper lesson on how to be a salesman from a grade A seller.
