‘John Wick 5’ Confirmed By Lionsgate; Sequel Will Be Shot Back To Back With Fourth Installment

Keanu Reeves is back in the back-to-back sequels game with John Wick 4 and 5 aiming to film consecutively next year.

On today’s Lionsgate earnings call, the studio’s CEO John Feltheimer said, “We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”

The sequel, John Wick 4, is currently scheduled for May 27, Memorial Day weekend.

John Wick has become such a big action franchise for Lionsgate, not just in its global franchise B.O. through three movies of $584.2M, but there’s a Starz John Wick TV series The Continental which is looking to premiere sometime following the fourth movie.

Currently, Reeves is shooting Matrix 4 for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow in Berlin, Germany. Reeves shot Matrix: Reloaded and Matrix: Revolutions (parts 2 and 3 of that franchise) back to back from March 2001 to August 2002.

2 more movies?! yeah I don't see it. 3 already felt nice to look at, but the plot was flaky and all over the place. Love Keanu to death, but ffs man... does EVERYTHING have to be milked to death?

I honestly don't want to get to the point where I detest the John Wick movies, I enjoyed the first 2, let's not get ourselves carried away here, H*llywood.

Anyways let's use this thread for any and all upcoming JW news.

I mean, this was a series that was always focused on the action and gunplay, and they did that very well. So long as the plots stays somewhat coherent and the action remains as refined as it is, I will probably watch them.

That being said, I think this is Keanu Reeves figuring out that he doesn't have many years of being the leading man in action movies ahead of him. So he making the most of it while he can.

We'll see, I won't be running out to the theater to watch them anyway, so if they are bad, I can just pretend they don't exist.

Exactly this. Three already felt like it was falling apart. You only need bare plausible plot to keep the movie going, but they just dove straight into the fantastical. JW1 had gritty, grounded fight scenes with bullet counting and tactical reloads. JW3 had Halle Berry's infinite ammo and video game dogs, plus a roving Bedouin mystic who runs the entire world from a desert tent.

Maybe doing two at once will keep them focused, instead of just throwing random things against the wall. They aren't out of ideas yet, some of the individual scenes are still good. I loved the fight in the antique knife shop, with the gun-assembling reference to The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly. But that was in the same movie as Halle Berry's shoe-horned character.

I'm glad Keanu's still getting paid, but between this, Matrix 4, and Bill & Ted's Bogus Sequel... I dunno, there's a weird disconnect with the fans wanting more of him, but Hollywood being completely unable to think up new ways to use him.

IS there a word for the type of gun-play used in this film? It reminds me a lot of kong-fu movies, how everything is fluid and paced.

It's actual gunfighting. Keanu trains with a world class trainer/competitor. You see this kind of shit with guys who pull triggers for a living, which is why it looks so fluid and precise. Even the center axis relock shit he does is a real technique, although of limited use in the real world.

I know that. I mean the over the top tacti-cool stuff

3 was half way off the rails although I enjoyed all the stuff that didn’t involve Halle Berry. I can’t even begin to express my total contempt for that character snd the scenes she’s in.

I’m kinda hoping it stops at 5 since this story is begging for a final conclusion. The more asspulls they do, the less I and others will care.

Not gonna lie I enjoyed John Wick 3 but the ending felt dumb and it was clear they were gonna milk the series from there
This might sound dumb, but the ending of JW3 reminded me of the game series Gothic: doing all kinds of dumb fucking shit to force the player back to square 1.
Every movie had to up the ante, and this might push JW4 into "The Fast & The Furious" territory, where each new installment gets expontentially dumber.

This was never meant to be a franchise; just a small budget love letter to old action movies.
The first one is simplistic, but charming. It's story was one and done.

The second one was ok. The action is good but the signs this was going to be milked were already there.
I hate the third one; it finally broke into the mainstream and ruined everything the first one was. It's plothole'd to hell and boring. Literally nothing happens. Wick ends up in the exact same predicament as the end of 2, just with different opposition. There is no story anymore, and the love letter has been shat on with Fortnite tie-ins.

Instead of making more sequels parading Keanu's geriatric body around, why not just make more neo-noir action films instead?
This generation could do with more Hard Boiled, Dirty Harry (1), and A Better Tomorrow-like films, or games in the vein as Max Payne.

Keeanu (or the director) was quoted saying they'll make new movies as long as fans want it.
What a nice way to say "they'll keep happening as long as they make money" which is every hollywood franchise ever since the 50s.
I bet a lot of the fans of the 2014 original are not the same ones today.

I'm hoping against hope they'll be good, but probably not. Action scenes went from a fairly realistic portrayal of violence in JW1 [the house invasion scene and Wick infiltrating the club are masterpieces] through some James Bond shit in JW2 to marvel-tier shit in JW3.
