Joker Folie à Deux (Joker 2019 2, translates to "Madness for Two") has just been announced.
Scott Silver and Todd Phillips have returned to write and Joaquin Phoenix is reprising his role.

SOCIETY MAN rides again!

"We live in a society, I'm da Joker, babeh!"

Hopefully they remove some of the confusing ambiguity and they tattoo "Damaged" on his forehead so we, the audience, can understand he has a damaged mind more clearly.

I think a better title though would be "Joker 2: Robin laid an egg"

I don’t think it really needed a sequel, but if it’s written and acted at the same quality as the original, then it could work.
One trouble with a sequel is ruining the ending of the first movie where it's possible none of it was real and was just the twisted fantasies of a dude in a mental ward.

Alternatively, maybe it’s a reference to Two Face.
Yeah, I think it's probably going to be another "rise of villains" movie. Joker portrayed a very different character than old portrayals of the character. There wasn't any "fall into vat of acid", it was simply "here's a clinically depressed, unstable person who worked as a hired clown", and the trademark white face was just greasepaint.

The problem is that none of the other villains really can be re-imagined that way. Two-Face was burned, but burn victims just have featureless, flat faces (basically a skull covered in pale flesh), which don't really work because so many nerves get simply burnt off. The Penguin is just an overweight deformed midget with a bird obsession. Ra's al Ghul is an immortal with a taste for genocide. Poison Ivy is a literal mutant, Killer Croc is probably a mutant, the Scarecrow is a Scooby-Doo villain with chemicals that really aren't possible in reality, Mr. Freeze is basically a dying man in a supersuit, Zasz is just a sadistic murderer, and Bane is, well, a big guy (for you).

But half of them (generally the more plausible half) have already been given over to a new origin story in the Christopher Nolan films. Bane needed a reboot to be closer to what he was in the comics rather than a muscular grunt in a lucha libre mask like he was in Batman Forever. The only villain I can see that can get a Joker-style reboot is the Riddler...who already is damaged goods. He's straight out of the Silver Age, his costume is ridiculous, his origin story is already pretty down to earth (DCAU showed him as a computer programmer screwed out of his job), and at best he's an intellectual equal to Bruce Wayne.

The Batman did a pretty good job with realistic versions of Riddler, Penguin, and even a Joker that was deformed by acid.

I think there's a chance they bring Batman/ Bruce into this just based on the title

Probably. I've gotten very tired of her. I feel like she detracts from Joker's personality. Joker isn't a duo, he's a solo act. I liked her on the animated series as a mere member of Joker's posse, someone for him to give exposition to. That's it.
She's gone from "victim of Joker's abuse and criminal" to "quirky girl-boss, yasss queen!" that even DC has embraced which makes her far less interesting.

The journalists that cried about the original will now have a field day thanks to Uvalde and Buffalo. Moral panic and harrumphing about this getting made will happen again. When I went to see it at the local faggy arthouse theater, they checked our bags and made a girl wash off the Joker makeup she had on. Some people are speculating Willem Dafoe since he expressed interest in a Variety interview. https://archive.ph/hcVVM

And considering its been months or so after the media payed less attention to the COVID-19 pandemic and now they've gotten back to talking about gun violence (and also supporting Ukraine (as well as still talking about BLM, Jan 6th or Stop Asian Hate)), the media will use R-rated movies such as this (as well as video games) as the scapegoat.

Also, yea I called it. I knew a sequel was going to happen at some point. This is going to be awesome!

Joaquin's Joker seems a bit too old to be Batman's nemesis when Bruce grows up. Maybe it could be like Silence of the Lambs? Set long after the first, maybe there's a new "Joker," so a young Detective Gordon turns to Joaquin's Joker, still housed in Arkham Asylum, for help? If it's the same team as the first, I'm in, regardless of what it is. Joaquin Phoenix seems like the type of guy to only reprise the part if he truly felt it was as good, or better, than the original

Could be an interesting way of continuing the ambiguity of the first.
"The joker riots happened, but was it Joaquin Joker or Willem Joker?"
