The thing about Kat being on the spectrum is her work hours/shifts had a tendency to change and she wants to visit Japan. Sudden changes like that and visiting other locales can be anathema to people on the spectrum and yet Kat deals with it just fine and seems to be actively desiring visiting other countries. If she's on the spectrum, she's on the lower end (higher end?) and can function like a normal human. The only real stories about Kat we have are from Phil, and Phil isn't the best storyteller when it comes to things going on in his life.

I don't think she's 100% rainman. But expressing a desire to go to a country doesn't translate to actually being some jet setting extrovert. Judge her by her actions not her words. Also we have no idea what her work schedule is other than some indications that she doesn't work all that much and has been content to remain in bottom rung jobs into her thirties.

As stated before she probably isn't rainman but it would not be that much of a surprise if jenna was telling the truth about her having aspergers or in other words be more high functioning on the spectrum. A guy locking themselves in a room to be an asocial shutin for years on end may not be that unusual but its quite rare for women.

I've always described Phil as being autistic when it comes to scheduling, because again, going to those competitions with all the people and noise would have drove him crazy. I'm pretty sure his schedule autism is something his mom probably drove into him as a child, but there's too much actual video evidence containing both of them that points to them not being actually autistic, just morons.

I would posit that if he was really autistic about his schedule, he would be punctual to start and end his streams, as not just the routine, but knowing that you get an "attaboy" for at least coming in when you are supposed to be there, if not earlier... but now we have 2+ hour prestreams.
 
I really don't understand how you guys can watch Phil and even doubt he has autism. He's literal minded (thought a rainy day fund literally meant for a rainy day), obsessively uses rigid scheduling that he get super upset if he strays from, he hates people and is super rude and antisocial, he has his special interests WWE and Street fighter. It just went undiagnosed because it was the 80s and his white trash family wasn't going to take him to a shrink.

The schedule is only one piece of why Phil is autistic. He completely lacks social skills, he's literal minded, he rocks back and forth, he will tell long winded stories that make his wife look like a literal retard without even comprehending why they make her look bad like I could go on and on. It's clear as day Phil is on the spectrum. With Kat it's so self evident I don't even have to defend it she's just clearly not all there mentally.

They’re fucking hard to diagnose, because it’s virtually impossible to say what is caused by low iq/mild retardation, what is autism, and what is a result of Phil (and to a lesser degree Khat) being locked away for over a decade, and forgetting how to act like a goddamn human being.

What is the answer to: Are they on the spectrum, mentally retarded or just weird shut ins?

Imho, it would be a resounding: YES!

Being low IQ doesn't make you act antisocial and like an alien in a human skinsuit like Phil acts. On the contrary stupid people are actually pretty outgoing and social from my personal experience since they don't have that mental inhibitor normal people have in social situation. Kat and Phil are very antisocial and weird in a way that is uniquely autistic. I do agree with you though about Phil being a shutin for a decade 100% has fucked his brain up but I think he was mildly autistic long before then.

Well no, but you get stuff like the low processing speed and go: “Is this because they’re not used to having a conversation or because they’re regarded?”

Likewise some of Phil’s skinsuit tier sayings: “A rainy day is when you save money to do something on a rainy day!”

Not going to deny that Phil is possibly on the spectrum at all. In the grand scheme of things though, his mild mental retardation and TAHXIC narcissism is probably a bigger problem for him.
 
I think there is a real argument to be made for Kat being mildly retarded (although we really don't have enough footage of her to really tell) but in my personal expert medical opinion Phil is just stupid. To me the "rainy day fund" was Phil not knowing what a term meant and not wanting to take the ego bruising of admitting it he came up with his own definition off the top of his head and his brain went literal because he's spergy.
 
I think people are crazy, Philburt is quite understandable and has nothing wrong with him. He is a neurotypical human being.

There are a lot of dopey yet neurotic, intimacy-shy middle class white guys similar to him, the only difference is that none of them have an internet presence. That's one of the reasons he's so great, he's the everyman's content creator.

Kat strikes me as odder because she's led a sort of rough life, but now all she does is eat and play videogames. If someone wanted to make the case that she's got something wrong with her that I could go for, but even there it's probably just a result of being an unintelligent woman with a trashy background.

I think they’re both retarded really. With Khat her low processing speed makes it a little more obvious. Phil is also retarded (just look at problem solving/thinking skills in general) he just hides it better because his massive ego/narcissism is the first thing you notice.

Phil so desperate to avoid being wrong that he blames the education system, nay scratch that: THE EVOLUTION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE! Phil did nothing wrong! He did everything correct! The real blame lies with the Department of education and language itself!
 
I think we might have different definitions of what retarded means. Phil is stupid as fuck yes, but he is a college graduate and valedictorian. He's not literally retarded. Kat on the other hand.... lol.
