I think there’s another angle here, but you would only get it if you’re old enough to remember the 90s.

Short version: in the 90s the anime haters were from 2 camps: Christians and people who hated the Japanese. The chistcucks because the spent the 80s to the mid 00s at war with fun (and in so doing handing the reins of American culture over to the leftoids in totality after completely running out of political capital around 2004. ) and the Japan haters were people old enough to remember/have fought in WW2, and probably were fond of a lot of people the Japanese killed or otherwise aggrieved. (At that point most WW 2 veterans were in their late 60s or 70s; they’re pretty much all dead at this point. For example, my late grandmother couldn’t be taken to a Japanese restaurant because she wouldn’t eat the food and would hurl slurs at the staff. She was Australian and told me stories about getting bombed by them in the early war and how a lot of her childhood friends were killed by the Japanese in various nasty ways, and my grandfather had fought the pacific theater and was also not fond of them according to my father. No she didn’t tell these stories to child me, she passed much more recently. ) Generations born after the war have gradually become divorced from the reality of how bad it was to have to fight the Japanese Empire, and since they have not really caused the west any trouble since, and the fact that US schools’ material on the Second World War focuses on “Nazis bad, Holocaust bad”, that enmity has pretty much dissolved. Go to any other Asian country, and ask them about the Japanese and you’ll get a reaction similar to how Jews talk about the Holocaust.

I think part of the issue is the existence of doujin, aka self-published works. Commercially-published manga, and even moreso anime, is going to have guardrails on what they can show, even if some of them lean heavily on letter-of-the-law visual censors to do the heavy lifting, Every once in a while you'll get one that's still skeevy in content without getting graphic that gets broader distribution, like Kodomo no Jikan. But doujin is the wild west, you can 100% find any kind of freaky shit there if you look hard enough, and people who are into whatever niche will eventually find each other and network. Even people who are only interested in tangentially related subjects are going to stumble across weirder stuff, like a fantasy enjoyer coming across a doujin about dragons attempting to mate with cars, and then adding a joke about that in their own works because they find it funny.

Anime as a medium is not as overtly degenerate as people who have never watched it like to think, beyond more raunchy humor and Japanese cultural-isms it's not that far out there compared to a lot of western shows from back in the day, beyond a couple of outliers every few years.

Genuinely explicit stuff like the examples above almost never last beyond one season unless it's actual straight up porn financed by hentai studios. The mainline anime studios are in the biz to make money from average consumers.

I disagree on two points here.
1. Pedophilia is not just more prominent now but also more abundant. There are more of them because there's been an explosion of child molestation and overexposure to sexual material in public schools after the schools were forced to allow gays into teaching positions, which led to botched developments of the children affected, so they grew up to become a generation with more pedophiles per capita.
2. I think the publicly accepted understanding of sexuality is completely divorced from the reality of it. In truth, sexuality is malleable and people can be groomed into specific fetishes and sexualities, especially if you target them at a young and vulnerable age. And I have this growing suspicion that pedophilia isn't its own thing completely separate from other sexualities, but rather an umbrella that all the others fall into. As in gay men are one variety of pedophiles, lesbian women another, trannies another, they may have specific preferences that differ from each other, but they're all into children first and foremost. That's why so many of them pursue teaching careers or adoption or surrogacy, catboy ranch style discords, they are all WAY too eager to get access to children for it to be a coincidence.
