They hate us, but we have no figurehead for them to base wild speculative generalizations of who we are. Without that, we're a formless entity they can't comprehend. Therefore, to make things simple, they whitewash us in the colors of those who they generally hate anyway. It's like how we have all those wonderful, offensive stereotypes of Germans and Japanese from WWII in the Censored Eleven.

It drops between two things. Most spergs would fail miserably the moment sunlight was turned on them properly (and they do) but every idiot like that wants to be a hero in their own story, which means they want a villain.
