Mods here are gay, but I think it would also be good to discuss alternatives to nexus as well. I somehow doubt the utility of the farms as a filehosting website.
I mentioned a few in the A&N thread, but I can mention them here as well.
- Moddb is good for a lot of smaller, older or less currently popular games.
- Steam workshop, or more specifically, how to download workshop mods without steam. You can do that either with steamworkshop.downloader, or a tampermonkey script. I haven't tried either, I should probably test it.
- AFK mods is more dedicated to Bethesda modding. They'll have a few things you can't find on nexus, but I doubt the selection is quite as robust. Needs an account to download files.
- Github. Sometimes real gigachad modders put their workshop/nexus mods on GitHub as public repos so you don't have to go through those platforms. Situational, but mad respect to those modders for it.
- Some game forums, like for Factorio and Starsector, will have dedicated mod sections where you can find the bulk of the mods for those games. Off-topic, but there are some real proto-cows on the Starsector modding forum and it's interesting to read.
- Skymods. I left this out because I originally thought it was dedicated to Cities Skylines and other Paradox games, but now I'm seeing there's a huge selection of other games there. I can't say if it'll have everything you're looking for though.
- Dishonorable mention: loverslab. Don't tell us you're going there and we won't need to judge you for it. Needs an account to download files.
