This thread is to suggest @Null a couple of things for the purpose of higher clarity in regards to some rules on Kiwifarms.

- I checked the TOS again on here, but there is no mention of the somewhat newly established criteria for starting PMs with people, which is detailed in here:
https://kiwifarms.st/threads/private-direct-messages-chain-spam-issue.185223/
https://archive.ph/7UylW

- This one, when in regards to attaching images (which may be a guideline or suggestion):
https://kiwifarms.st/threads/we-hav...t-being-able-to-figure-out-thumbnails.113862/
https://archive.ph/ppTdY

- Or this one, in regards to the correct private-tag usage:
https://kiwifarms.st/threads/private-tag-usage.115443/
https://archive.ph/XDz58

- Added (Jan 4, 2025), in regards to the use of the word "doxing" and variants:
https://kiwifarms.st/threads/doxing-in-2025.208564/
https://archive.md/tZcJn

All these threads are scattered (in "Forum Discussion"), however they are important guidelines that should be found easily & specially to new users, so in my opinion it would be best to compile or link them in a section alongisde the website's TOS; I may be missing something else.

I also want to ask this as well, is this tag for archiving in (https://kiwifarms.st/archive/) by users, or just staff? If not, how do you archive in it?

I'm not sure those instructions are written properly, is the [varchive] supposed to contain the [video] tags as well? Can there be images, and if so, what tags should they use? (Videos normally use [attach], right? Yet in here it uses [video] out of nowhere.)

On the one hand, "lurk first" is an ancient law, at risk of being forgotten.

On the other hand, if you are trying to manage a large collective of people from every time zone and walk of life, all at different levels of autism but none at zero, there's something to be said for having a clear set of rules on display.

It's a poser.

Here are the rules of Kiwi Farms:
  1. Don't be an obnoxious retard.
  2. See rule 1.
  3. When in doubt, lurk. You don't have to make an account here, and you don't have to respond to everything, or even anything here.
  4. Don't interact with the lolcows.
  5. If you cannot follow rule 4 due to your own retardation, do not connect yourself to the forum.
  6. Do not reveal more about your life than you have to. We're not your blog.
  7. We do not delete anything on request unless it violates US law or you have a court order. Your requests for deletion will be made public, and we will laugh at them.
  8. If you violate any of those rules, you will be mocked. If your opsec is also extremely poor, we'll make a thread about you and we will find every embarrassing thing you said on the internet.
  9. If you don't like any of these rules, leave and never come back. We won't miss you.
Everything else is Null trying to make threads easier to read and search (the thumbnail thing is also to optimize site performance). We're a primary source for a lot of internet drama, whether the reaction YouTubers admit it or not, so we might as well be easy to search.

There’s an unspoken universal rule across every board: Just don’t be unfunny, cringe, lame, and other synonyms.

When in doubt, lurk.
The problem with this is when you see numerous other Kiwis doing something it can give you the impression that it's acceptable, when in fact those Kiwis have it wrong.

Stickergate is a good example of this. Stickers were never supposed to be taken seriously and stickerfags were supposed to be openly mocked. Then a great amount of retards joined and obsessed over them giving the impression that it's normal.

If there had been a post clarifying the forum's attitude towards stickers then these people wouldn't be so confused why they're considered Redditfags.

Don't interact with the lolcows.
This is another example. I've seen certain users in the ComicsGate thread regularly interact with cows in their streams. Not to troll or bait them, but they do interact with them.

This gave me the impression that interacting with cows is sometimes permitted, but I was later informed that it isn't. Lurking in this case led me to the wrong conclusion. If there was a central post clarifying if and when it's appropriate to interact with cows this wouldn't have happened.

Newfags don’t know how to forum.
Granted some of it is forum etiquette, but these seem slightly more important and not entirely intuitive.

Unless you specifically search for how to properly use the private tags, you're bound to misuse it; randomly PMing someone who does not fall into the specific criteria laid out by Null (wanting or needing to be in one) is at risk of breaking the rule; and screwing up the thumbnails is not something that would seem like much to a new user, but it is, just like double posting.

So why not make it easier for people to be aware of it? For those who have not lurked the entirety of Forum Discussion, because as mentioned everything is scattered (and difficult to search even by regulars, unless you want to comb the board or search terms under Null's profile).

Real talk: most of the “unwritten rules” are common forum etiquette from the 90s-2000s. Newfags don’t know how to forum.
Problem is, that's not even a newfag thing anymore, that was 20-30 years ago. The people who learned forum etiquette at that time are now starting to become grandparents, and many of those people are gone for a myriad of reasons.

Also @We Are The Witches does have a point about some of the features, unless you're familar with XenForo, you're likely gonna not know most these features existed unless Null happened to make a featured post about it.

KF rules are pretty simple and easy to understand.

There are a few rules imposed from above on KF, and those are pretty much "Don't host anything not protected under the First Amendment and don't post criminal ideation (@SIGSEV can explain more on that)"

The rules as stated by Null are "site is SFW, no minors allowed, no community infighting, don't fedpost". That's all there really need to be.
