First selection,
Shutting Out the Sun: How Japan created its own lost generation by Michael Zielenziger

This book is about the problem of hikikomori in Japan. The phenomenon occurs when young adults and older teenagers refuse to work, go to school, or even leave their rooms. Evidently this problem is exacerbated by increased youth unemployment rates, and disapproval of people who act outside of the norm. It also goes into Japan's rapidly falling birth rates and growing consumer culture. It's a very interesting and depressing read.

Next choice, Serial Killers: The method and Madness of monsters by Peter Vronsky
If you like serial killers in general this is a very interesting book. Not only does it describe the methods of individual, famous killers but It also delves into the motivations that drive various types of murders. One other cool thing about this book is that it lists things that many serial killers have in common, such as a history of animal abuse, arson, and bedwetting. Maybe you can use it to discover hidden killers amongst your loved ones and coworkers.
