So recently I've been trying to burn older music onto CDs. My computer is capable of burning regular CDs however I want to burn images on top of discs to make them look official. My goal is to create a custom CD box set for the Smashing Pumpkins album Machina and the Machines of God and I want it to look as official as possible, autistic I know but Billy Corgan will never properly release that album. I've got NERO 2014 software installed and ready on my computer as well as an external LightScribe burner, with 100 wav files to store on the LightScribe CDs I own. I'm pretty much ready but I wanted to ask all of you if you have any tips for burning the songs through the burner and especially with creating my own custom cd art for the disc. It's older tech so any help would be great.

You can still get the discs... these were good., I always got 1 or 2 bad discs out of 10 from verbatim. Memorex was always 4-5. be prepared for that. The tech was never really improved upon, sadly. we could have had full color bluerays by now.
I burned 100's of cds. Hell, I made a 500cd binder for my dad of all his vinyl for his birthday back in like 2008 or something.
The trick was to add art that looked good as only black ON white, not black and white.
CD Burner XP works on 10 and theres instructions on the website, its pretty straightforward.

note: by the end of the era, cdburnerxp was way above nero IMO (controversial take for sure). you'll need to install the lightscribe drivers and klite codec pack for decoding / encoding some file formats I think. Good luck and let me know how it goes. I miss doing lightscribe. Made some good money burning cd's for people at the turn of the century.

(try win 7 compatibility mode, I think the link posted above mine gets into it if there are issues)

if you know how to torrent, try to get flac versions of the albums you have saved, you already own em, fuck it.
It ensures a clean, lossless transfer.

ohhhhh shit, these things
they were cool in theory
I dont think I ever really worked with one, I think I had a boss who did? Seems like one of those things that's really cool but then once you run out of the free ones that came with the computer that had the drive that did it, then you found out if was a buck more per spindle like yeah nah fuck that

I wish the discs weren't so expensive now, it's genuinely cool tech and works really well in my experience. I have a WinXP gaming rig that houses my Lightscribe burner. Software I use is the basic bitch Template Maker from here: https://lightscribesoftware.org/freesoftware/

I design all my labels as JPGs on my modern pc, throw em on a thumb drive, import them into the software on XP, and it just...works. Surprisingly simple.

Holy shit thank you guys so much, working all this weekend but I'll update once I test a burn on one of the LightScribe CD's. I really appreciate all the help. Wish more people still purchased physical media but streaming music is completely understandable.
