I'm not a power user of forum software. Most places I visit, there's a lot of posting of original thought without a lot of linking to external info except for reference citations (which than just be a straight URL) so I'm really not that familiar with which forum software has what embedding compatibility

Given the nature of much of the farm, linking to external media seems to be a large part of posting.

Is there a guide to linking procedure/style?

For example, with twitter, what is the preferred linking style? (I don't seem twitter as included in the embedded media list)
Is simply taking a screenshot and uploading that the best method? (I seems a bit cumbersome, but at the same time the evidence is then archived as cows can be fickle and delete tweets)

screengrab and archive.is
lolcows delete their twitter statuses.
download all video content and rehost it

This is actually a good idea. I think it is a worthy suggestion as newbies always get this wrong.

@Clown Doll what do you think?

http://archive.is/ and https://tweetsave.com/ are your friends when it comes to twitter.
YouTube vids, direct link and backup if you can (or ask someone who knows how to).
Facebook posts, etc, screencap and drop em in. http://archive.is/ is also useful for facebook posts.
If anything's particularly large on the screen, spoiler it.

This thread is worthy of mention.

Very important. When Lolcows mass delete content, it might make dozens of pages of discussion worth nothing if it's not backed up.

If anything's particularly large on the screen, spoiler it.

Also good advice. There have been a bunch of reports from mobile users that having a ton of unspoilered large pictures or videos makes it difficult for the pages to load. In general, I think if you're posting a lot of media into a thread, utilize spoilers to group videos/images using breaks of ~5 if you're posting a lot of content, that was people with slower connections won't have the page completely freeze upon loading.
