Funny how I mentioned M.U.L.E recently and just learned today that this was coming to Steam.

Hopefully it will have online multiplayer.

The original designer who made it for EA back in the 1980s died about twenty years ago. Did they somehow acquire the rights or just some hack that made a game based on it, then has the gall to name it the same thing and charge for it?

Pretty sure they acquired the rights. A couple of different things have been done with the property over the years. Plus the original was emulated online for free years ago anyway, lol.

A MULE thread without the theme posted? That’s really the best part, it has the best intro of any 8-bit computer game.

It’s a great game and there was a reboot a couple years back for iOS that never took off. This is a port of that, and iirc it does have netplay. It’s a good faithful reboot but really I’d suggest checking out Offworld Trading Colony if you’re looking for a playerbase since it’s essentially a really, really good modernized sequel. It even has MULEs in it.

There’s also a html5 webapp MULE somewhere, but I can’t remember the name since it got changed to dodge copyright before Returns came out.

Fun vidya fact: The first MtF dev in the game industry made M.U.L.E. long before any other troons entered the scene. The reason they don't talk about her is that she regretted the sex change operation.

They were based AF and won awards.

I have the cart for my NES but still yet to play it. Is it worth the trouble to learn to play it?
