The thread devolving into people posting malfoid school uniform porn of a character from a series famous for being about children proves my point. This whole trend is just a barely covert group goon session masked as romantic or platonic longing, not dissimilar to the greek towel boy gio scotti trend.
Tbh I think I prefer the idea of Ron still being Harry's (male) best friend & wingman, willing to throw everything he's got at Snape, Lucius or even Dumbledore to let Harry find happiness and date the girl of his dreams in peace. A real ginga nigga, demonstrating that his race does in fact have souls with his heroic actions.
Also Bluesky's still malding over how stupid it was of them to drive Yunayu away only for her to not only keep posting Malfoid art, but get more popular than before on Twitter (which they simultaneously think is le chuds 'exploiting' her and being less welcoming than they are simultaneously), and are also seething about the possibility that she'll become a full-time chud herself as if they live in her head rent-free the way she clearly does in theirs (all her art, including the Malfoid ones, is entirely apolitical).
I enjoy both versions. In the Malfoid only version, he is the ultimate bro and wingman. In the full genderbent version, she’s a good foil for Malfoid and well -done version of the “childhood best friend” trope.
So where would this rank among the fan moments and things that made an impact in the Harry Potter fandom? Considering how many things have gone on over the years, I'll be surprised if this cracks the top ten.

I think another big aspect of why Malfoid has taken off so hard is anime wasn’t quite as big and mainstream back when the books and movies were coming out. Looking at everything in retrospect now, there’s plenty of setup that would work amazingly in a shonen, romance or harem anime, depending on which way you wanna take it.

This is a classic case of a battle coming unplanned. The shrieks about pedo/anime slop from the right are ignoring the fact that Harry potter is a major cultural touchstone the left wing deliberately abandoned even as they took over everything from Star Wars to the fucking Terminator. The left threw Harry Potter in the gutter and the Chuds have lifted it out of it.
The culture war is tragically a real thing, and this malfoid shit represents the very first articulation of a right wing reactionary response to decades of left wing perversion on depictions of male/female relationships, white women more generally, and the lack of genuine aspirational romance for young boys.
The chuds and the chads have seized on this and are ramming it home. the result has been the most autistic explosion of internet drama I have seen in a decade. It is making jaded and cynical assholes like myself remember what it was like to be a child in the 90s, while introducing zoomers to the idea that there is more to male/female relationships then lust and porn.
I gotta say. Of all the weeb infested social media trends I can think of. This one she had the most redeeming qualities. I at the very least appreciated seeing blue sky drive off a big artist who was immediately adopted by the Nazi twitter.
