Evil

projecting
This is what they do.

It is just as Null said in one episode of MATI - talking about something gives you the feeling of having done it - making you less likely to do it.
They want to feel as though they are fixing themselves while not actually doing anything. They take their anger and make it God's anger to see themselves as virtuous. It is all performance.

Honestly it just makes me wonder how interesting a dynamic between a naive "chosen one" who grew up from nothing but fate directed him to always be successful and a totally rich bitch who had to essentially slave her whole life away in order to get her family's honor could be. Naturally it all depends on the writer, but with the right pen it could lead to a story with a lot of character growth.

A good fanfic writer would use this opportunity to lean into Harry's Gary Stu-ness and use it as a character flaw juxtaposed to the hardwork-oriented but still prejudiced Malfoid.

Some kinda...Pride meets Prejudice or something

One of the appealing things about Malfoid to me is that it allows the character to grow earlier than Draco did in the books. He is basically smarmy arrogant little asshole antagonist for 80% of the books. Thousands of pages. Until the sixth book when Voldemort tells him 'you're my slave like all my followers, your father failed me, now do what I command BITCH or I'll kill him and your mother too,' and that + witnessing Voldemort's brutality makes him decide he doesn't want to be another good little Death Eater cog in Voldemort's machine. Malfoid gives the character the opportunity to be conflicted and gain complexity much earlier

People drawing themselves an imaginary fantasy girlfriend is sad.
Anyone fantasizing about being in Harry's place is doing it wrong. The fantasy is supposed to be about having what Harry and Malfoid have with someone, not having it with Malfoid. The way anyone with a shred of good human feeling and spirit smiles at seeing a happy couple with their young children out and about the town unconsciously sharing their joie de vivre also plays a large role, that's where I get my enjoyment from it

First off, I'm loving how much fun people are having with this meme. People are somehow taking a single image and turning it into an entire collective fanon AU with its own ancillary lore, like Dumbledore using Dobby for his anger issues (or his sadism, who knows), McGonagall being a veteran who has been to countless war zones. And the general fascination with how Draco works much better as a girl, because of how his canon version behaves nothing like a male high school bully, but a lot like a female high school bully.

The reason I personally think it fits so well, has less to do with Malfoy himself and more with the fact that Ginny is a very unsatisfying love interest for the protagonist. She was the scraps that Harry was rewarded with for succeeding where seasoned adult wizards failed and saving all wizards and witches from Voldemort. Meanwhile, Draco is a full-fledged character with arcs and character development. In an alternate universe where Malfoid was the source material, it could also have completely flipped the dynamic of each book, as now you have 2 competing trios of students investigating the current year's big threat, maybe racing each other for it too.

This is a classic case of a battle coming unplanned. The shrieks about pedo/anime slop from the right are ignoring the fact that Harry potter is a major cultural touchstone the left wing deliberately abandoned even as they took over everything from Star Wars to the fucking Terminator. The left threw Harry Potter in the gutter and the Chuds have lifted it out of it.

The culture war is tragically a real thing, and this malfoid shit represents the very first articulation of a right wing reactionary response to decades of left wing perversion on depictions of male/female relationships, white women more generally, and the lack of genuine aspirational romance for young boys.

The chuds and the chads have seized on this and are ramming it home. the result has been the most autistic explosion of internet drama I have seen in a decade. It is making jaded and cynical assholes like myself remember what it was like to be a child in the 90s, while introducing zoomers to the idea that there is more to male/female relationships then lust and porn.
This post hits the nail on the head with a lot of things.

Im gonna be real i hate malfoid just the most generic anime goon shit thats somehow is making people lose their minds and creating the most corny shit i’ve seen thats literally just
This is the weeb equivalent of when trannies call their boners "gender euphoria". Calling it some over intellectualized gay shit doesn't make it less disgusting to normal people
Sirs, please take this 'concern' to [literally any big budget production of the last decade]. There is a new gears of war game coming out soon that'll be right up your alley.
>thinking anyone can be bothered entertaining this barely disguised political concern trolling complaint about contrarian fan material anymore
>when every award-winning movie, game, novel, comic book, or cartoon of the last 10-15 years has been some variation of "look at this character I made who agrees with my political views"
>when even the source material, the original harry potter books themselves, were also an iteration of "look at these good guys who agree with my political views"

The only event, where I'd be willing to see what you're arguing, was if all the Malfoid stuff had revolved around completely flipping around the main plot of the series to be about nationalism or a pro-right-wing message. You know something along those lines.
>Tom Riddle was a mudblood and was bullied by wizards for being a mudblood
>the deatheaters and their pawns in the ministry are all about killing purebloods and forcing the rest to marry mudbloods
>Lucius disapproves of Malfoid's interest in Harry, not because he's the boy who lived, but because the Malfoys are purebloods, and if he doesn't marry her off to a muggle, Voldemort is going to kill both of them for betraying the cause

But that didn't happen, did it? That is not the point of the Malfoid meme. If you don't get the appeal, if the wholesome romcom comics between the hero and his blond, green-eyed opposite sex rival seem jarring and too politically charged for you, just turn on amazon prime or netflix and watch some "lesbian space princess" (no I'm not memeing, that's the title). I'm sure you'll love it a lot more.

This right here I think is the real secret sauce. Harry went through a shit ton in his journey. He deserved to get the Princess at the end. Ginny could have been that, but her characther was never really fleshed out. Her depiction in the movies sucked ass, but even the books which still had plenty of set up left her less as the prize at the end of the journey and more of a side quest. Harry saved her from the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets, which I suppose in Rowlings mind met the need her story required.

But its way more fundamental then that. I keep bringing back "Lord of the Rings" because its the gold standard for fantasy literature. Aragorn and Arwen's romance is established in the first book and plenty of exposition and back story is hinted at. But it is a romance that could not be. Aragorn was a mortal human and Arwen was an elven princess. They could never be. Arwen's father Elrond is adamant in this as well, dissuading her. His own pain at losing his brother to mortality coloring his perception. Him being "half blood" also coloring his position, along with his contempt for humans.

Yet Aragorn goes through trials unnumbered, to include rejecting the Ring when its offered to him. Delving into the deeps of the earth to wake the dead, and challenging Sauron before the black gate in order to finally become King Elessar. And by doing so he became worthy enough that Arwen could become his wife and even give up her own immortal life to be a mortal with him.

That is a pay off for a plot thread established in the first book where Aragorn and Arwen share a private moment on the bridge in Imladris.

And Lord of the Rings is not a "romance" story by any stretch. Tolkien just understood that an epic WITHOUT romance was missing something fundamental.

Personally I think the Eowyn and Faramir arc is way better, but the movies cut that shit out hard so its not as well remembered in pop culture. 2001 Peter Jackson shied away from the idea of the warrior maiden of Rohan being domesticated and wifed by chad Faramir. Even the Iliad has Achilles falling for the slave girl, or Odysseus quest to return to his wife despite being tempted by every demi human slut under Zeus's sky.

I think if she had appeared more in Book 3 and 4, even just a major scene or two, it would have done a lot to help. As it stands, she essentially just disappeared for two full books before becoming relevant again, and then there’s only any real romantic hints in Book 6.
