I have dully read every single post in the cursed ILJ thread, including every post asking for help finding specific material in the thread. I got the idea reading thru that particular thread but this feature would be useful across the site. I know OPs gets updated regularly, but this would also make managing OPs easier. Highlights are fantastic but they often lead to posts about tits or some other nonsense. To mitigate this and make material in threads easier to find I propose a new rating intended to tag posts that contain actual material in them (screenshots, archives, .zips, audio/video, PATEbins and so on)

Now I know this can easily be misused, and I'm also a retard therefore I don't know if it's possible to have rating disabled/locked on the posts that contain no media but
it sure can be made available to selected group of users who'd use it responsibly (and not on shitty memes) I would hope (like :semperfi:)
No idea if this is something Null and kiwis think is needed or would want, no idea if it would work as smoothly as in my imagination, no idea if there even is a chance for it not to degrade into just another needless parallel highlight function. Tell me what you think.

In my mind it's a little envelope icon named "mats" or "material" 📨 or "drop" or I don't care what.
This is not to replace Highlights, it 's meant as an addition.

ps: OR RATHER now that I think about it, maybe just add the ability to tag one's own posts with 📨 tag so people that upload media can mark their posts instead random users rating wrong stuff. I suspect Null will say "this is what highlights are for" and I find no fault in that. But at the same time not every material is worth getting highlighted so, maybe it makes sense.

imo just let mods de-highlight random BS and it should be fine.

Qualityposts stay viewed, dawxxes stay seen, "lolfat" gets unhighlit. I dunno.

I agree the highlights function needs help. I often end up reading every single page of a thread because I no longer trust it to catch everything.

The system you suggested is a good idea but it adds several layers of complexity-- adding another rating and adding another system alongside highlighting, to do the function highlights is supposed to cover.

Inspired by your idea, I think an update to the function should work this way:

1. User sees crucial post that isn't highlighted.
2. User clicks a button at the bottom of the post that says "flag as highlight to the mods" or even just reports it regularly, with a request for it to be highlighted and a reason why.
3. Mods have manual access to promote posts to highlights (and remove shitty highlights), evaluate the users request, and act accordingly.
