I tried desperately to get through it live and it had the potential to be a very entertaining story if not for the constant interruptions. The funniest takeaway was that the judge had to appoint a public defender for Ralph because poor.
So that it? No facts other than Ralph had counsel appointed to him because he’s too poor to pay for a LOLyer anymore?

That's actually pretty funny. Can't wait to see what the "I'm not actually poor this is a brilliant chess move" cope is.

I think it was just a status hearing getting everything in order for the judge to ultimately decide if it goes to actual trial. Ralph still didn't have a lawyer so not a whole lot could get done. V said there will be a couple more of these via Zoom before the judge makes a final decision on a trial.

Other takeaways were Ralph being wasted throughout, a couple rants about internet conspiracies against him and him basically asking the judge for legal advice a few times which the judge isn't allowed to provide.

Apparently he kept telling the judge that he did have the money for a lawyer. He also said that 15 lawyers turned down the case "because it was frivolous" (wtf?). Also he got a quote for a $15k retainer and that was too much at which point the judge stopped him and said he was appointing one (because poor).

EDIT: Oh I forgot, Ralph was also ordered to provide a sworn financial declaration (monthly income, assets, debts, etc). It'll remain sealed with the court though.

That’s bad news for Gunt. Worse than it might initially appear.

When Gunt tells the Judge all the bullshit about 15 lawyers and the $15k retainer being too much, the truth behind it is that all but one of the attorneys he contacted turned him down flat because the case is a guaranteed loser, and the only one who would even consider taking the case wanted $15k up front before even lifting a finger because, again, it’s a guaranteed loser of a case and their client is a loser with no credit, job history, or actual assets except for Ronnie’s crack shack and the Ralphaswamp.

The really bad news here for Gunt is the sworn financial statement. Not because the dang dirty trolls will get a hold of it because the Judge ordered it sealed, but because eventually agencies like the IRS are going to start wondering why Gunt hasn’t filed taxes in years and is on video claiming to be making massive money while pleading poverty in Court.

So Gunt can tell the truth in that statement, and admit to all kinds of fuckups, or lie and then he’s perjured himself. No wonder Gunt can’t find a lawyer to take on this case without big money up-front.

The IRS was my first thought as well. No streamer is paying what they should in taxes.

Any streaming platform in the U.S. (and perhaps elsewhere under some circumstances) that isn't itself cheating on taxes has to file a Form 1099-MISC both with the IRS and provide a copy to the taxpayer if the streamer earns more than $600. So anyone streaming and not paying taxes on it is completely fucked if they get audited, and this is incredibly likely if there's a 1099-MISC filed on their behalf but somehow it isn't mentioned on their 1040.

It's pretty easy to automate that process.

Now do fake "business expenses". Bro, do you even DSP?

Doesn't Ralph already have child support issues? Wouldn't he have already provided financial declarations for that judge to determine how much he has to pay monthly? I wonder if he's worried about them not matching since that lawyer fired him?

[EDIT: I'm not even sure if he's 'worried', only going off a jackass's story]

This would be true only in cases where the platform has an integrated payment system. That being said, Powerchat would have to do this independently. Being that Nick and Baked own a controlling share of Powerchat, that should be interesting.

Ralph is enough of a shameless broke nigger that he would claim stuff like liquor, cigars, restaurants, sunglasses, and hats are business expenses. He'd claim they're part of the persona or part of the performance or some bullshit.

I'd totally bet they'd both cheat on their taxes and fail to do shit right.

He didn’t have to, because he reached an agreement with the Vickers over the child support amount. If the Vickers had held out, then yeah, Gunt would have had to reveal his true financial situation to the court, but because they went easy on him he didn’t have to.

Is the child support payment amount set in stone or could Vickers appeal it for any reason?

The amount is set. They could go back into court over the amount if they wanted to pay for the lawyer but they were just in court over this a while back where they could have roasted Piggy and they let him slide.

You’d have to go back into the posts from the time, but I think it was theorized that going easy on Ralph was Faith’s decision. The Child Support case is Faith vs Ralph, not Matthew vs Ralph. This theory is that Faith knew how seriously Ralph would get in trouble if they took it all the way and the Court started digging into Gunt’s financials and didn’t want to be the cause of that. Just a theory, and not even mine.

It could be challenged under changed circumstances or under an interests of the child argument, either by Faith herself or by a guardian ad litem appointed by the court because both parents are failing to represent the child. The right to child support belongs to the child and can't be negotiated away by the parties if the court finds it isn't in the interests of the child, so can generally be challenged regardless of what the parties agree between themselves.

Also Ralph could challenge it under changed circumstances if he can show that his income has dropped (often for reasons not based on his own deliberate malfeasance). He'd have to present full financials to prove this though.

This is what happens when you fuck up your life so much the state invites itself into it. You never get them back out again.

So it can be challenged BUT it would have to be challenged by Faith, Gunt, or an Ad litem. Well, Faith and Gunt aren’t going to challenge it because they’re the ones who agreed to things as they stand. Was a guardian ad litem appointed?
