Don't buy a SCCY. Only handguns I can say I've personally witnessed break on different occasions at the range. Not repeatedly jam/malfunction, more like something snapped inside the guns and gave them permanently dead triggers. If you're stuck on .380 and DAO with a manual safety try to find a good deal on a Ruger security 380. I won't put Rugers up against Glocks or M&P2.0s, but they're a step above the bargin bin brands and if something happens their customer service is definitely better than anyone else at that price point.

SCCY (pronounced "sky", and no i'm not joking) are pretty poor quality overall with the CPX-1 and -2 being especially bad with poor heat treatment of the trigger bar and/or pivot, which can egg, bend, or even snap after even minor stress of the double-action trigger which is also terrible due to having almost no leverage against the hammer's pivot to work against the mainspring. note the red arrow pointing at the problem area.

CPX-3 and -4 are marginally better but seem to be ammo picky. a lot of these issues are because it's a cost-reduced Ruger LCP in terms of design, with a larger overall firearm and intended to compete against the Bersa Thunder.

the magazines do function though, it's typically an issue with the trigger components (aftermarket really cleans it up, like Apex or Galloway Precision) or barrel or in rare situations the feedlips. the Kel-Tec P-9 (or P-11, which is a double-stacked, product improved P-9 but some prefer the slimmer single-stack design) is better than the CPX in almost every way (which is a pretty low bar) and the Bersa Thunder Pro is better than both in terms of design, if not execution. between all three guns i would probably look for a Kahr P380 instead.

brittle trigger bar or failure of the trigger and trigger bar pivot not properly rotating the hammer far enough to get to the reset point. many such problems.

I've shot a Makarov only once before. It had a very Russian military trigger. What's it like training with it and carrying it regularly?

Staccatos remind me of Rolex watches: heavily marketed, squarely mid-level performance, work as advertised, and decent customer service/support post-sale. Luckily they're not priced like current Rolexes and the Staccato ADs aren't fucking smarmy faggots like the Rolex ones are. Their owners sure are, though.

The Bul SAS Tac II line is quite good for a similar price to the Staccato (assuming you can find them for sale). There are also more 2011s that are much better but you are definitely going to be paying for the performance upgrades.

I got myself a Rossi M885 about a decade ago, I didn't pay more than $200. A very acceptable .38 if you can find one, they cost a little bit more now though. I even carried it for a year with no issues.

I don't think that's a particularly hot take. I know guys bitch about Series 80 triggers, but they're still miles better than anything else on the market, and you can still use Series 70 guns for competition or range use.

A factory 80 series trigger is just as bad as a factory 70 series one made in the same era from what I've experienced.

My E. German Makarov has probably the best milsurp DA/SA trigger I've ever encountered; in DA the 8.5lb pull is smooth like pancake supper, no slop or stack; single-action snaps at 4lb even, and the reset is fairly short. It hasn't been modified in any way & was literally unissued condition when I got it, so this particular gem (you should see the finish!) is definitely an anomaly amongst Makarovs. I've never seen or shot one like it, so it rides in a shoulder holster that no other Makarov would have any right to be carried in.

Next "best" would be the Bulgarians; variation in triggers seems consistent, depending on condition. The Norinco copies are somewhere south of that, regardless of condition; but Russian-built milsurp Makarov have been garbage comparitively in finish & feel. Russian commercial guns have a better overall finish, although the triggers still universally suck.

Maybe I've been spoiled but I'd only consider buying a Russian-made Makarov if it was genuinely historical; i.e. capture/bring-back, verifiably carried by a notable individual, or a special-purpose/factory-modified example.

PSL equipped with the Teludyne Tech Industries "Straightjacket" Barrel system, which consists of an outer sleeve over the barrel with the area between the internal wall of the sleeve and the outer wall of the barrel being filled with a proprietary resin, apparently made every gun it was applied to super accurate. Although, seeing in how the passage of time has not resulted in literally every precision rifle being equipped with a similar system might indicate it was actually a dumb gimmick

On the far right is a US Palm 30 round quad stack AK mag that never entered production, I believe that this would be the lowest capacity quad stack ever conceptualized, as even the Keltec CP33 holds 33.

Apex has had these for a while, but after buying a case, they're a pretty good option. they're all recently manufactured too (dates mostly within the last year or two, my case was November 2023).

Two things 1. Those pirates have some super super clean and pristine guns especially ones that would be 80 years old (that BAR) which makes me believe there's something else going on and 2. wouldn't that US palm quad stack be too fat for an underfolder? gotta take that into consideration.

I got a box of these last year, they are pretty decent. Lots of junk carbs included but the mains have decent protein except the rice with tomato sauce entree. Wasn't a huge fan of the cracker they included as it has some kind of seasoning that goes weird with the peanut butter and jam, but is ok to eat with the entree. I'd definitely grab them for emergency rations now that I've tried them out.

I had a series 80 before the boating accident.
Iirc it's literally two parts that can be swapped out and the gun effectively becomes a series 70.
That's it, a bugman burger.

they make an "airsoft" version out of Hong Kong.


note that these are identical to the DPMS ones almost certainly since DPMS sourced cast aluminum parts from several factories in Taiwan and Hong Kong for years and years and these might be identical. they were cheap $50 sights originally after all.
