It has been recently brought to my attention that both the M60 series of machineguns as well as the Sig MCX/Spear series of rifles utilize a short stroke piston system that do not include piston return springs but have pistons are instead forced forwards by the forward movement of either the op rod or a protrusion on the recoil spring guide assembly. While I am not an engineer It would seem to me that this is a superior system as it includes less parts and one less spring that you need to worry about getting hot, getting damaged and eventually replacing. Is there any particular reason to go with a spring including design over a "free floating" one? off the top of my head systems with springs are much more common.

Fast Box 47 is popular and works well if you take the time to secure it and bolt it to the floor.

That’s nice I like that but it ideally needs to be a little bigger. I’m trying to get trunkpilled so I can throw all this and some ammo into a slightly bigger box under my bed and forget about it.


Ideally I’d like to chain it to a peg in the floorboard so I can still slide it out from under a bed frame. I like the Vaultek RSI200i but I know there’s probably something cheaper out there.

My dumbass might want a third fun so extra space is appreciated, like a 2 to 3 gun + plates + ammo.

consistent return to the initial position in the event of a misfire. an M60's gas expansion is similar to an M14's in that the op rod is forced rearward by the violent movement of the gas piston imparting momentum to the op rod assembly by expanding into a specific pressure vessel at the front. when this pressure vessel is at a predetermined internal pressure, a gas relief valve is exposed to vent gases until pressure drops enough to allow the op rod to return to the initial position and impart momentum to drive the piston to the forward position again. this is self-regulating and largely self-cleaning, and the bits that aren't cleaned can be easily cleaned from the front and rear during detail disassembly.

however the weakness is there isn't any real method to drive the action if there is weak gas pressure in the system. M14 and M60's are awful suppressor hosts to get working reliably because of this unless you add a nielsen device or have a blast moderator or recoil booster. if the gas piston was independently spring-assisted, this device would largely not be needed.

the Spear gets around that by being manually adjustable like a FAL is - you have several settings (depending on generation) to increase or decrease gas pressure. other than that it's a "longer" AR-18 action sort of.

Not sure about as a host, but if you get a 92 get a G model decocker. Don't get the slide mounted safety. It's just bothersome after a while. Decocker only is just the way to go

Drawing and shooting from retention indexing from your hip/ribs from arms length away is one of the most important skills you can practice carrying a handgun. And you're most likely to shoot them in the lower chest or even dick area depending on RNG (it doesn't always go where you're looking). It's also fun. Just don't stand too close or present your gun too far forward or you'll blow the paper up like that. Also don't do the whole "push away with your left hand" thing. Keep your hand at your chest.

usually they're stockpiled for friendly forces or destroyed when storage gets low. after a war police need gear too, as well as any reformed military once the politicians are removed or capitulate. used to be you could use them to help fund the war effort too, but that hasn't been a thing in a long time.
