Mega Rad Gun Thread

My guess is they'll be "fine" on standard 55g 5.56 depending on distance for 1-2 shots then bust, anything heavy will merc that shit bad. Please provide results.
They're supposed to be IIIa so 5.56 would just go clean through, we'll see when I have them in person I'll try it with pistol calibers and record the results.

I know I'm extremely late on this, just realized /r/fosscad was banned a few weeks ago. Where did the community scurry off to after the banning? Or is it all splintered between X/Discord/Matrix/etc? Are most people just checking the GunCAD Index from time to time for new releases?

That anodized red is aaaaalmost tasteful

almost :lit:

I got those parts free because when I bought my Vector they were offering $100 credit for their online shop with proof of purchase and the only other color they had available was yellow/gold. If they had blue or purple, I'd have gone with that. I liked how they highlight where the safety and magazine release are.

I just cant stand colorful anodized parts. Maybe its tism, but I like my guns black and scary unless they're stainless or something like that. The only thing I have that isnt black or stainless is my DD m4 that I got for a steal but has this goofy cryptek cerakote. I might just pain that black.

There's two Lemmy instances up here ^^

I considered getting the yellow furniture with my $100 coupon but they don't have a matching gold grip core plate so I passed on it. I quite like the small accents against the black and I agree that it slightly highlighting the mag release is pretty nice.

Unintentionally kicking over an anthill by making a tone deaf observation would be the easiest explanation for the overt hostility. It would also not be the first time.
People are really defensive of their garbage 3d printed plastic lowers that barely work

They can't make the structurally least-stressed part of the gun without it breaking apart after 500 rounds (even when excessively reinforced) and don't want to hear about the fact that that makes them useless

This has been around at least 10 years - since at least 2015
That is a television program that says nothing that you claim
Aliens, ghost and paranormal and supernatural creatures are all real

It is not admitted to for the same reason the Mexican drug cartel's being in literally every state, including Alaska, is not admitted to: It would be an admission of failure. The job of government is not to protect your rights or secure the country or any of that shit.
This is regularly admitted to, DEA admits Mexican DTO's and their agents operate on US Soil in various capacities. The government very publicly fucks up all the time, they admit they can't stop the flow of Glock switches.
You use the media as proof. "If the media doesn't talk about it, then it does not exist." The media... is a
You are literally using an episode of a television show to make a claim with no supporting evidence.
Going by your Appeal to Authority 'reasoning' (shyeah), I suppose weaponized invader bulb heads in Minnesota aren't committing fraud at scale (and elements in the government aiding and abetting that fraud) because Nick Shirley doesn't have a Press card, journalism credentials and isn't on CNN's payroll.

"The guy who said this is just some guy, and in my opinion isn't important. Therefore it's not happening."
Nigga, Fraud by Somalians is real, there have been court cases and convictions and a current massive ongoing FBI investigation. You're claiming that Flips export illicit firearms across the globe that end up on the streets of America.
Where did the community scurry off to after the banning? Or
What others said plus X and /r/3D2A

It's not 2018 anymore, Cody Wilson isn't the only person printing lowers to 1:1 dimensions like a retard anymore. There's the UBAR, BUBAR, UBAR-X, Hoffman Super Lower and a few others. All can last thousands of rounds easily.

I think having a big red button where the mag release is makes it nice for novice shooters to know what to press to drop the mag. Yeah, there is a fence around the mag release somewhat indicating where the release is, but it's nice to be able to tell a new shooter "just push that big red button to drop the empty magazine and insert the new mag".

And my Vector is mostly a range toy. If it continues to be as reliable as it has been I'll probably also have it available for home defense since it's so compact, but either way it doesn't need to look like a SHTF gun. I've got plenty of plain black "serious" guns. I like the little zazz the red gives.

you're gonna hate life when you decided to find a holster for it.
This isn't much of an issue. With common household tools like a heat gun and a drill, painter's tape, and some wood shims like popsicle sticks, you can make your own kydex or hybrid holster for cheaper than any quality holster out there even with the trial and error involved. Working leather takes a little more skill and special tooling though. If you're an open carry fag and need retention you're fucked.

sight dovetails.
That's gay as hell.

I'll agree that 3d printed guns are mostly a party trick for the time being, but I'm cautiously optimistic about their future. Consumer printers right now are mostly limited to plastics that aren't well suited to gun design, but some of the higher-end printers being used in places like hospitals are capable of printing much stronger plastics. If availability and cost of those printers or metal printers improves, we could see practical home printing of firearms within the next couple of decades.

Unless you're interested in the technology for its own sake, though, I don't know why an American wouldn't just buy an AR-15 parts kit and mill a lower.
Speaking of 3d printing if anyone has an EasyJig 3 for 80% rcvrs here are STL files for two add-on pieces that allow you to finish a full M16 pocket cut. Mill the rcvr with the jig as you would normally and when you're finished tap the two pieces onto the plate and use the included depth gauge to go back over it to enlarge to the M16 pattern. I don't remember where it originally came from.

I don't have a 3d printer but splurged and had a couple sets made in glass-filled SLS nylon PLA12 from a Chinese site that has a cool STL import feature (FacFox/Insta3DP. They work great after some minor fitting with a file to smooth out the mating edge.

When I first got into 300blk I thought it'd be a good idea to color-code my 556/300 uppers with a colored accessory like a mag-release button, charging handle, etc. Like something blue on my 300 uppers, something silver on the 556's... Good idea on paper, gayest shit ever in practice. I'll take my chances blowing my face off. Lit a few hundred on fire testing that theory.

I do like the red/white fire/auto/safety markings on HK's though.

apparently it's even more complicated because the og jericho also used old tanfoglio witness dovetails, just a different sight design
View attachment 8357603View attachment 8357599

the baby eagle 3 and the new tanfoglios also use the same dovetail

View attachment 8357621View attachment 8357616

so its really just someone getting filtered by not doing even the most basic research
I never realized these differences existed but my Jericho is a safe queen, it was the beginning of guns I purchased for aesthetics and not as a tool. I don't see the point in changing such things as sight dovetail type but it's definitely on the gunsmith to look stuff up.

My 300blk AR just has an ejection port cover that says 300 BLK on it and the mags I put 300BLK in have that stenciled on them as well.

Yeah, no - guns are cool but at the end of the day they're tools and I'm not getting into the beard oil dad version of Etsy crafts just so I can carry a niche gun.

As for open carry - if you're doing it as an EDC you're a faggot who gets a dopamine rush off "triggering Karens". But if SHTF my full sized "duty" gun is going to be in a lvl III retention holster.

That's what I went with too but as Murphy's Law dictates the first one I ordered with '300blk' in blue was entirely cerakoted blue because apparently I can't read.

More interesting to me than printing guns is printing tooling for other manufacturing methods, electro-chemical machining to rifle and chamber barrels from hydraulic tube, and tooling for folding sheet metal are 2 I've seen that have potential.
3D printing ECM jigs for rifling barrels and reaming chambers is probably the biggest thing to come out of the 3D printing space for guns. Barrel internals has always been the bottleneck for homemade guns. Props to the guys who figured it out.
