Shotguns are the absolute best answer for dontshoots when it comes to home defense. They are lowtier suboptimal choices for people who shoot regularly.

Everything taser mentioned about them and their fuddlore reputation being mostly lies was spot on.

However with excellent pointability and super easy foolproof manual of arms along with their low maintenence and shooting for center of mass being the right point of aim...

It's the easy reccomend for collecting dust and "just in casers".

Shotguns are fine for home defense, but I think the ease of use for non-shooters gets exaggerated a bit. Double-barrel shotguns are pretty idiot-proof, but you only have two shots before you need to reload, which would be difficult under pressure without practice. Pump-actions are a common recommendation, but I've seen multiple people manipulate the pump incorrectly and cause a malfunction, or not know that there's a random button on the gun that you might need to unlock the pump. They also aren't the easiest to reload under pressure.

The AR-15 isn't much more complicated in general, and the reduced need to reload combined with a reliable semi-automatic action mean that a user might need to do less manipulation under stress than they would with a shotgun.

Buddy you hit the nail on the head. In my experience teaching students both in shotgun and rifle, your assumptions are right. Short stroking is extremely common and the exact issue to fear for a newbie experiencing a break in.

However, a shotgun immediate and remedial actions are basically a single or two steps and intuitive. The shells are big and easily handled. You aren't going to fuck it up buying shitty off brand magazines that will double feed when you smack the magazine like a gorilla.

You could make a great case for the PSA AR being a better choice for reason x, y, or z. Its a good conversation to have with the noshootz dad who wants to keep a gat in the closet now that he's got kids.

The Kel-Tec KSG is a good home defense gun. It's a bullpup so you get the short-barrel effect and it's got twin tubes you can load with different loads.

I'll answer you both since it's kind of related. No, I don't have to wear a monkey suit for work (thank goodness). Not to go into specifics about my profession, but my work clothes are 5.11 pants and a polo or short sleeve button up. I don't have to tuck my shirt in for work. I do have a moderately active job where I'm up and down, in and out frequently.

Seeing as how my youngest is 9 now and my wife can no longer have children again, I don't really have to worry about midnight pregnancy munchies runs. But, when I do have to make a quick dash, I still strap up. My magazine carriers are the kind that have snap belt loops, so I only have to undo my belt on my right side to slide the holster on. Or if it's jacket weather then I throw on the shoulder holster. I have a second shoulder rig that should be here in a couple of weeks for my Staccato P (my favorite way to carry). It doesn't take that long to throw on whatever I'm going to carry, even if it's just a quick run down the road. I have a whole routine for getting ready to go out, and it includes whatever gun and reloads I'm going to carry that day. My pants belt is designed for use with holsters/magazine carriers and has a metal core to prevent the leather from rolling or sagging and provides a secure foundation for the holster and carrier.

I'm a very...particular kind of guy. Whenever I've settled on something or whenever something has become part of my routine, it may as well be hardwired into my operating system. And there really is nothing that will turn me from it. I don't really give a damn what the "meta" consensus is on what the "best" gun for whatever purpos is. I use what I feel is best for me. I've always preferred full-size pistols, and I can't stand shooting super compact handguns. Especially ones so small that you can't wrap all your fingers around the grip. The ones where your pinky finger is just hanging there in space and the only place for it is tucked up under the bottom of the grip drives me bug shit. The shorty boot grips on the Python Combat Elite I'm probably going to buy will be replaced with full-size grips. Sure, it won't be as concealable, but even with full-size grips it'll be more compact than anything else I've ever carried.

I'm so used to carrying now that I feel absolutely awkward when I'm out of the house unarmed. I do need to get a new belt since I've lost quite a lot of weight since I bought my current one and I'm already on the tightest notch, and with the steel core in the belt I can't just punch a new one like I could with a normal leather belt.

funny you say that, i picked up this exact thing a month ago for 150. the bore wasn't rusted to shit so i think it's a decent deal.

can you impale someone with your gucci AR-15 or poorfag PCC? thought so. carcanos are pure SOVL, the most important metric by far.

Just make shure your firing the .268 projectiles out of it instead of the more common .264, most ammo manufacturers make modern 6mm carcano with an undersized bullet (mainly PPU). It will make the carbines especially keyhole like crazy.
Also the 3d printed clips you can find on ebay actually work very well and in my experience rarely jam on the last round

this is true but they are significantly easier to point shoot than say an AR. for a traditional hunting/skeet shotgun you dont aim it, you point it using your eye pressed firm against the stock comb which is why most of the time they dont use full pistol grip stocks. you also have to consider that while patterns don't expand much indoors, they will still create a wound far larger in diameter than say a 5.56. they also do expand a significant amount over moderate, pistol range distances as shown by the graph below; however you don't necessarily want that depending on how many pellets are in your load.
