A bit more about the SOCOM new guns orders/potential orders.


Looks like the .338 Lapua machine gun is on ice for now. I'm guessing the ammo is just too scarce and heavy although their use case of having it be on a vehicle vs a .50 cal is interesting.

They also want a new 7.62 NATO "light" machine gun to replace the Mk.48

They're looking into another 6.5CM AR along with the current Geissle one, new on is LMT.

All the tools the new 5.56mm carbine.

Not a peep about the retarded .277 Fury lol.

The same people behind Saving Private Ryan were behind the production of Band of Brothers and the Pacific, including Dale Dye who was the "drill instructor" for all three productions. They went far above and beyond getting the actors trained to realistically portray soldiers. And the fact that they fumble sometimes in the heat of the action is arguably one of the more realistic aspects they could include. These were soldiers in the middle of a fire fight, not competition shooters who practice reloading for hours every day and never have rounds coming back their direction. They're not going to have clean, smooth, fast reloads every time. Especially with a weapon that can be tricky to reload in the best of time like the Garand.

I forgot about this one because Ambrose getting it wrong spawned that idiotic scene of Liebgott, Webster, and Shifty going out to hunt the concentration camp guard (another thing that didn't happen in the book). This bullshit probably lead to Inglorious Basterds getting made. It does say something that Easy Company was probably not as close knit as everyone likes to think it was and again, Amborse relied on a certain group of veterans who formed a clique within the company and only got their recollection. It's pretty sad when it seems like Gearbox's Brothers in Arms was a better researched piece of media than Band of Brothers.

I remember reading about this because this stood out to me as a 20 year-old reading Band of Brothers. Webster wrote after the war about his experiences and he didn't feel obligated to ever volunteer for anything beyond joining up and going airborne. He followed orders but he had to get them to do anything, I think the only reason the company didn't hate him was he reliable and didn't goldbrick when with the company. It was such an odd thing to read from a member of the "greatest generation" especially back in the George W Bush days about being patriotic and fighting for your country. Ironically enough, I had just finished reading Starship Troopers and it was an odd juxtaposition.

Why is it so friggin hard to use search engines these days? If i'm looking at .33 Nosler rifles I don't want to see .375 H&H's or .338-378 weatherbys.
Fired another 368 rounds in my .45 Anaconda on the 27th. Grips came loose so I tried to tighten them back and found the threaded brass inserts in the grip that the screw threads into were stripped. hand to pound the screw out with a brass punch. So I'll have to get new grips. pity, they were good grips. I believe i stripped them by over tightening (?). some of the loads I shoot are quite stiff and they kept coming loose.

I've posted about this a few times but I finally did it.

My dad died a couple years ago, and some time later I found a S&W 19-3 buried in some of his stuff, completely disassembled, in somewhat rough condition. I have no idea where he got it. He was a machinist in his earlier life and did a lot of his own gun work, so I think he might have bought it off somebody to fix. I reassembled it as far as I could, but ran into a problem and ended up taking it to a gunsmith. Glad I did because there was a safety issue that was above my pay grade to fix or even recognize. They fixed it, I did some test firing, and then took it to have it refinished. I just got it back. Behold.

It's not quite like new, there's still light pitting in a few areas that can't be seen here and a couple nicks. But I think it came out pretty well overall. Going to take it to the range this week.

I know some turboautist here can probably dox me down to the atomic level with this post, so uh... just don't do that I guess?

Anyone ever build a Brownells 10-22 (bx22?) Pops wants one so I'll be building it.

Brazil seems to love Madens and they are good for it.

Got a few rounds out today took wife and she just LOVES my Spanish Destroyer, I gotta say (9mm pistol Mauser rifle) super "learning" gun. Bolt action, super sights, 0 recoil.

Yes 20 inches. that + the fixed stock made it a major pita getting in and out of vehicles and made properly shouldering it basically impossible unless you are a giant.

Realistically theres not much different in accuracy or range from 20 to even 11.5. The skill of the shooter and conditions are going to have a vastly bigger impact on accuracy at 300+ yards than a few more inches of barrel.

Fun fact, in the Marines at least once upon a time M4s and M16A4s qualified exactly the same. Both shot out to 500 yards using irons.
