As cool as sawed off shotguns are, do they have any actual utility for self-defense that isn’t already covered by pistols? The Ithaca Auto & Burglar was probably the last of its kind. There's some kind of poetic justice that they may be legal now that carjacking is once again a massive problem.
Yeah. You ideally want like a 12" barrel pump gun with specialized SBS shells and obviously a stock. Or something like that. Spread pattern maxing. As cool as sawed off shotguns are, do they have any actual utility for self-defense that isn’t already covered by pistols?
Yes. If you want something you can shoulder, have a short barrel (Try to round a hallway corner with a bird hunting gun and it won't work very well), and shoot with loads which can (depending on ammo type) be less likely to penetrate than handgun ammo. A pump action shot gun can run low velocity, light loads very reliably as compared to a PCC. Of course you are making a trade off between lethality and penetration risk but some people are ok with that.As cool as sawed off shotguns are, do they have any actual utility for self-defense that isn’t already covered by pistols?
Even with a cylinder bore your patterns will be smaller than a open hand at self defense distances.Spread pattern maxing.
Nah. You are generally correct assuming normal shotgun and normal wads. Like I said, optimize for rate of fire and spread by making the correct ammo selection and a 12" barrel.Even with a cylinder bore your patterns will be smaller than a open hand at self defense distances.
If the NFA gets repealed I expect an apology from each and every nigger faggot that gave me a rainbow sticker when I made this prediction
FRTs have already been lawyered about so I don't know what the ATF can do at this point. They can't just declare them machine guns, they've already tried and lost in court. We’re never getting machine guns - repeating “shall not be infringed” like a religious mantra is not going to change the mind of normies including the majority of gun owners.
I don’t think FRT’s are going to last either. The pilpul that keeps them legally federally reminds me of the stuff Orthodox Jews do to use appliances on sabbath.
I might pick one up for a PS90 but I’m fully mentally prepared to have to register it at some point in the future.

I don't think it passes though. it would be a democrat proposing it and it would be a HUGE wedge issue for the GOP to push on. If they couldn't pass the AWB after sandy hook they won't pass anything similar now. the political landscape has not changed enough for it to be a viable tack for them. They would have purple and red state democrats defecting on the vote.BATFE is tasked with interpreting laws passed by a congress from when the Model T was still a practical vehicle.
I could absolutely see legislation passed specifically against FRT’s especially when some nutcase inevitably uses one like the Vegas shooter did with bump stocks. It’s going to be hard to convince normies that FRT’s aren’t machine guns. Especially when there’s already legal precedent to declare Glock Switches and lightning links ones.
Machine guns and FRT’s are not my hill to die on. I just want my suppressors and SBR’s.

it was also 10 years ago and the GOP has taken a harder stance on gun control since. Even within the ATF and DOJ.Trump banned bump stocks any almost nobody said a word about it including GOP gun owners. It took SCOTUS striking it down years later for people to take them out of hiding.

This ATF also approved surplussing out 120,000 M-14s, guns shipped direct to your door and got wait times on SBR/SBS down to the absolute minimum.Maybe you’re right. I’m still not gonna be surprised if FRT’s ultimately fail.
Between the inevitable mass shooting involving one and fudds who live to write letters to the ATF…

IIRC many states(including red) have laws with wording along the lines of 'SBSs, SBRs, suppressors, MGs, etc are only legal as long as they are legally registered through the federal goverment'. If the NFA was repealed/thrown out, they would have to rush through laws to cover the now unregistered devices and who knows what dumb shit politicians would throw in.like what?
That interesting. Do those laws make a distinction on the gun being registered versus the owner, if that makes sense? Because every gun that is bought from a manufacturer through a retailer is registered to somebody, who then could sell on the private market, etc.IIRC many states(including red) have laws with wording along the lines of 'SBSs, SBRs, suppressors, MGs, etc are only legal as long as they are legally registered through the federal goverment'. criminally underrated JMB designStevens Model 520
I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question exactly, as non-NFA guns aren't necessarily registered to anybody if they're owned in free states, but if I'm understanding correctly this seems like it would vary heavily by state. That interesting.
