The manual of arms for an AR-15 is way easier. The actual shooting of one is not. Learning and knowing you holds with unknown range shooting alone takes hundreds of rounds to be passable at.
Genuinely what the fuck are you talking about? In the context of using a rifle for self defense, any distance you'll ever realistically be shooting at will be close enough that you can just put your aiming point on target without worrying about holdovers or parallax between sight and barrel or any of that shit.

Retard.
In the context of using a rifle for self defense,
Ah yes, let's celebrate the liberation of suppressors and SBRs but not bother learning to use the damn thing to its potential.

Your height over bore matters most up close. It's the difference between shooting the wall or a car hood and hitting your target, not to mention the one-shot kill is highly dependent on your precision and accuracy. You guys need to break the mold of thinking guns are just a way to protect yourself and more of a way to protect all of our rights. Learn stuff, practice, and become lethal and capable.

An AR zeroed at fifty yards will have a point of impact shift of about 2.5” or so at ten-fifteen feet if you aim at your dot/front sight post/whatever depending on your height-over-bore. Federal FliteControl has a what, 1” spread in pattern at ten feet? That additional 1.5” Super Commando is talking about over here isn’t going to matter going down your hallway if you’re shooting center mass. It does not take hundreds of rounds of training at the range in order to put a fist-sized grouping of hits on the chest of a bad guy on the other end of your hallway with an AR.

He’s just being a contrarian retard for the sake of being a contrarian retard. People like him spend hours LARPing at the range (or online lol) but then do absolutely nothing to fortify their home in the event someone tries to break in to steal all their expensive shit.

Learning how to LARP and shoot at various distances is totally helpful (and fun) but being a faggot and telling people they can’t possibly be serious about protection without dropping $2,500 on an expensive AR is peak gay and retarded. People like him do literally nothing for the 2A community while Poverty Arms is over here helping to finance the death of the NFA.

I don't care what long gun you use to defend your home if youre not jumping out of bed to the beep of a shot timer every so often you're gonna get your sling stuck on the nightstand, knock over a bed side lamp with the muzzle and stub your toe when it matters.

Actually, assuming a 20ft hallway it would take hundreds maybe a thousand rounds to do that under stress without good studious training or instruction. I know you can't with "self defense" time frames in mind. Feel free to post the splits and group.

You, like many others, hinge your pride on your possession and meager abilities with guns. When exposed to information that would make you better, you see small incremental improvements, (which in this case is also critical foundational knowledge like height over bore compensation) and tune it out because you can hit a man-sized target at "the end of your hallway". Somehow, you've convinced yourself you are good at this and become resistant to improving through external advice.

As much as you want to imply I'm a try hard and larping for internet points, my mission statement for being on this website is all over my posts. Instead of having a complacent weak armed citizenry, my goal is to make it a competent and formidable one to every degree I can. I've mentioned my confusion to this resistance before and haven't really gotten a satisfactory answer yet, if you carry a gun because you think it will save your life, how does it not then compute you want to eek out every advantage you can in trying to save your life? Are you telling people that they will be made better shooters if they don't compensate for height over bore? It will certainly matter when your home invader has taken your gerbil hostage and you need to slip the shot past the innocent. We as 2nd Amendment advocates really need to shift the conversation from problems that can be solved with a J-frame and should be homed in on problems that need to be solved with a rifle well past "self defense distances". Some day that will be what secures these freedoms for our posterity.

As much as roman name big iron poster has fanciful ideas about shooting, he has fascinating and deep knowledge in his lane. I can appreciate that and you don't see me hassling gun enjoyers. I don't fuck with people who are right, but I am more then happy to jump down the throat of people who are just wrong and wafting their ignorance towards mailable minded new shooters.

If only the poors shoot PSA I hate to imagine what you think of us 80% lower guys. How poor are we?
Lmao. It depends entirely on how good you are at it. Either utterly unemployable or top tier genius.

Once you have a gun in hand use it. It's the before purchasing where I try to steer people. I had at one point in my possession 6 PSA lowers and 3 PSA uppers for 3 PSA complete rifles.

I've given away or sold a ton of ARs, I'm down to two, one Centurion and one workhorse franken rifle that walks a thin line between gucci and gauche. Second gun has about 13,000 rounds through the barrel. The Centurion replaced two other rifles in my closet. I never had a PSA make it to 1000 without going down for reasons varying from trivial fixes (buffer tube not screwed in far enough, badly timed handguard) to direct to the trash can (out of spec lower).

Bro shut up I don't wanna talk about that rn
FYI: if you have a Gen 3 Easy Jig here are the STL files to 3d-print a couple attachments to fully mill an M16 trigger pocket after milling the AR-15 pocket from the stock jig. The Gen 4 already does it but there are plenty of Gen 3's still out there.

I don't remember where I originally found them years ago or I'd give credit. I didn't think they would work but on a whim I uploaded them to an overseas prototyping place's web site that let you upload STL's just playing around curious about how much the different materials they offered cost.... and dumbly ordered a set in SLS Nylon PA12 Glassfilled.... becasue I remember AvE saying something about glass-filled nylon being better on molded tool enclosures or something. Anyway it was one of the best dumb decisions ever - shit works great.

This place is amazing to just upload STL files and experiment: https://i.facfox.com/insta3dp/

You are, you keep posting walls of texts doing such. It's clear you're nothing more than an online ooperatoor
I knew I'd find autism in this thread but damn, you take the cake.
I'm merely a horse snorkeling enthusiast. If people didn't dig into their bad takes I wouldn't need paragraphs digging them out.

Damn a lot of tismo.

Let's all be nice, and remember if you are pro gun because you want James Bond's pistol or to be a 1337 Delta etc, you're good people and welcome.

Also I'm reloading now fan on garage door open, life is good frenz. Also I'm eating salted peanuts and godwilling they don't fall into these 303 cases.

I know you can't with "self defense" time frames in mind.

I’m glad you’re bringing this up, because it’s showing your lack of knowledge about home defense.

Around 2008 I knew an older gentleman who was a large firearms collector. He was a competitive shooter and shot at a local range weekly. The guy was a very good shooter. He lived with his daughter in their basement where he kept a majority of his collection. I know he specifically slept with a loaded pistol (I cannot recollect what it was) laying on his bedside table.

A few meth heads learned he had a large collection of firearms and kicked the door of his basement in one night. He had no time to even get to his pistol before they were beating the ever living fuck out of this man. He lived, but he spent a good amount of time in the hospital and lost a good chunk of his collection.

The moral of the story is that your split times on the range don’t fucking matter in a home defense shooting. If you are not buying yourself enough time from when the intruder first kicks your door to when they’re standing next to your bed, you’re fucked. Modern solid core doors can be defeated with one good solid kick by driving the dead bolt straight through the jamb and is how most home invasions occur.

I urge everyone here to stand at any entry point in your home and SPRINT to your bedroom. This is the amount of time you have IF you wake up from the first kick. Anti-kick plates that tie the jamb together with one piece of steel, reinforced hinges, and door stops all help give you TIME so that you can meet an intruder from a place of ambush at your choosing.

You don’t need a $1500 AR for home defense. A shotgun or a cheap AR will do just fine. Just practice and make sure your gun reliably feeds the defensive ammo of your choice. Spend your savings on actually protecting your home and the weapons that will be in your home when you’re away.

I get a shit ton of use out of my shotguns because they're pretty much the only thing I'm allowed to hunt with in this godforsaken state. Guns laws are retarded, but hunting laws manage to be both more retarded and more ubiquitous throughout the country. This is an area that is practically overflowing with deer, too. I work late into the evening and I see the bastards invading my neighborhood, plundering gardens and knocking over trashcans. It's a good week when I only have to stomp on the breaks to avoid hitting a deer once or twice. The fucks have no predators besides humans and maybe a few canids like coyotes and feral dogs.

I shot guns for the first time at night with some friends, and its horrifying in a beautiful way. Watching flames exploding out the barrel and the ejection port really puts in perspective how dangerous these little devices are. Would recommend trying it at least once.
