Speaking of big magnum thumpers, anyone here run a decent amount of stuff like .454 Casull, .500 S&W, the safari rifle rounds larger than .416? If so, what did you run them out of and what did you think overall?

They were and are excellent DA/SA pistols and it's a shame as today they'd easily be $1000+ as you actually have to machine metal instead of pressing a button and injection molding hundreds of frames at a time.

I'd love a 5906 and a 5903 and the compact model.

Too bad they're getting RARE even on the boomer fudd shit hole known as "GunBroker"

I bought my 5906 (a very lightly used police trade-in) for $600 locally a year or so ago. It's not super hard to find them on GunBroker for $700-750 now, though you'll typically only get one mag and it might be a ten-round one, lol.

That said, Mec-gar mags aren't terribly expensive online and are pretty easy to find.

Got the Elliason rear sight installed on my Python. I'm really impressed with it so far. Feels robust, the adjustment clicks are positive and tactile, and I really like the three-dot sight picture, kinda like an automatic. Colt honestly should dump the rear sight they've currently got on their revolvers with adjustable rear sights and go back to the Elliason.

I respect the artistry, but the grip being so much larger than the barrel tickles my tism in the worst way. You must have some Andre the Giant-level catcher's mitts for hands.

Eh, about average. The grips look big, but aren't that much larger than full-size target grips, and they're actually quite thin. They're long front-to back, but thin side-to-side in kind of a similar way as a 1911 if that makes sense. I actually really like the way they feel and am really thrilled overall with how this project has turned out.

Coming soon to a Gunbroker near you:
RARE M14 NOT M1A NOT AR15 NOT AK47 NOT FAMAS NOT FAL NOT G3 ALL MATCHING ***MINT***

$10,000

I KNOW WHAT I GOT
Reportedly they’ll be about $2k each. But here’s hoping we won’t see what happened with their Garands, where people would buy a crate of them for $1k each to immediately resell for $1500+ a pop.

CMP sales should be one per person and ownership should be non-transferable without written authorization, with CMP buyback always an option. It’s harsh, but fuck profiteers.

It'll be cool if the CMP M14 sales kicks off a renaissance of new aftermarket accessories for the M14/M1A, like new rail systems, stocks, etc. Some people will want to keep them stock for historical reasons, but there are going to be plenty who will want to do GWoT builds or just make them a bit more modern.

With 100,000 getting released and Fulton Armory already selling them in almost every imaginable fitout, I could see this happening. I was hoping Choate might have some stuff (I have a 90’s era Choate polymer stock on my 10/22 and it’s pretty nice) but no dice.

That said, does an M14 do anything an AR10 can’t, accessory-wise? I mean at $2k, an M14 brings quality and reliability that a $2k AR10 simply can’t match, and if you’re interested in bayonetry and butt strikes the M14 is the obvious choice. But they’re heavy as shit and lightening them makes them less useful in this regard. I’m torn.

I got a NIB 5906 around COVID when my local shop got a handful of NIB 5946's and 5906's for some reason. Came with two mags, iirc, and was $600, the 5946's were $650.

It's a very nice "DAO" block of stainless that shoots very well due to the weight.

yes, it's cool AF and that's all that matters.

in regards to weight, an AR-10 with a rail and a scope will weigh about the same as a stock M14 at ~10 1/2 pounds. the original AR10 was way lighter but no one shoots those.
The AR10 has developed into a dedicated marksman rifle while the M14 is a battle rifle. they do not occupy the same role, which is why retards get so frustrated when they try to make the M14 a sniper rifle. the gun was made to hit a man sized target in combat on the north german plain, not win matches

The problem with buying an M1A is that you end up owning an M1A.

That's why I went with an LRB M14S barreled action to do my Mk14 Mod0 build with a USGI H&R trigger group for it. LRB are one of the few (perhaps only) companies making M14 style rifles to full USGI specs, including properly forged bolts, operating rods, and receivers. Springfield uses investment casting for those parts in the M1A. And LRB is so committed to quality that they will send samples from each batch that comes from the forge to go through a number of tests, and if even one part comes back with an imperfection then the whole batch gets sent back to be melted back down and reforged.

I learned my lesson about the M1A when I owned an M1A Stainless Loaded. Had nothing but issues with it, even after having sent it back to Springfield two or three times. I could never get through a single magazine without some kind of failure, regardless of what magazine I used. My LRB build has never had an issue.

I mean, not really. The M14 may have the advantage in extreme cold, but overall the AR10 (at least a quality example from KAC, LMT, or similar high end brand) is a better choice these days. I know if I had to choose between my LMT MWS308/L129A and my Mk14 Mod0 to boog with, I'd take the LMT and not have a second thought. And if you're looking at a gas piston AR10 like the HK417 or some versions of the LMT then it will likely handle harsh conditions just as well, if not better than the M14.

Anyway I've bought a Five Seven. I'll take some pictures later (if i remember), but it's the older model without the optics cut (which was on purpose, i like the 90s look). I'm happy. gay as hell.
It's alright bro. We still support you. Mostly.

You can get a chassis for an M14 that makes it heavy as fuck and still less ergonomic than a decent AR10.

Or you can get a PWS Mk2 and call it good. Look for a used one and you can find one for less than $2k.

I'll be nice and say 1 a year (unless is the new production stuff then 2 a year)

But lifetime limit of 5 vintage rifles.

The only thing worse than a scalper, is a gun scalper. As he actually has the means to defend himself from someone (justifiably) gutting him like a fish and stringing him up on a lamp post in the town square.
When I'm declared Emperor of Earth (or at least President for a Day) I'm going to DO THINGS to MANY MANY "people" on GunBroker and certain gun shows

Oh and I'll get my little cleaned up Beretta on Monday and show and tell it 😎
