Minecraft

I like Minecraft.

Funny thing, I thought the game was way older than it was. As in, had been around since the 1990s. I was first introduced to it by a high school friend, odd kind of homeschooled guy, who played it on his phone. We mercilessly bullied him, but when I found it had survival elements I got really interested.

I only play Survival. Can't keep the attention to do Creative. What I do is usually just build giant farms, wall them in, and try to explore massive areas. I always rage-quit a world when I die while exploring and lose my maps, or some expensive stack of resources. In all those years (I guess going on eight, now) I've never used Redstone once, or really done much of anything besides build farms and mine in the Overworld.

The only problem with Minecraft is that it's too much of a time waster. It takes many hours to do anything meaningful in it (so much time is spent just clear-cutting rock) and even compared to other video games, it's drudgery. I can zone out listening to other stuff, but the guilt of it is too much.

Come to think of it, I use Minecraft and Don't Starve like competitors. Both of them are "survival" games where you build up from literally no tools. However, Don't Starve is more of an actual game where the survival is hard and the world cartoony and interesting, while Minecraft is minimalist and allows for way more creativity in actual building, at the cost of survival being more of just a motivator to build certain things.

Woah. Necro'd this thread a bit. Also who ever merged mine with this one, appreciate it.

It's a good game, Java edition that is. Would smash again. Vanilla has finally got some depth to it.

Been trying to play a game called "Embark" which is basically Minecraft in a city builder format, but it's so buggy right now, it would take a super autist to really get much enjoyment out of it.

Speaking of city builder, did you know the latest update in the game now gives to ability to create your own villages from scratch? Also gave the villagers jobs and such to make them feel more alive.

I never got into Minecraft back in the day, the blocky cube graphics were just too disorienting for me (and I'm not even a graphics sperg) but my youngest brother loved playing the free version with his friends back in 2012-2014.

I might give Minecraft a try since there are supposedly resource packs and similar mods to improve the game.

Are there any mods that include guns and is the free version still available?

As far as I'm aware there wasn't a free version of minecraft anywhere. It's always been paid, but price has been slow dropping to 29.95 USD. Your brother probably got a free download of it online. You can do that if you want, but I'd be careful with those. Here's one that I found: https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5235-minecraft.html

That actually makes a lot of sense. One of his friends from school got him into Minecraft and it's possible he just got a copy off of the friend.

Forgive my ignorance.

Bumping this one to see if anybody else is interested in joining the 24/7 kiwi kraft vanilla server. It will stay up for months - maybe longer, and I will backup the entire world to mega or one drive for you to download if it is indeed shut down.

I started playing Minecraft back in the days of beta, when it was still primitive as fuck, then bought it when they started selling it pre-1.0. I haven't played it since though, so I'm seriously out of touch with that's happened in the mean time. I think my account got lost when Microsoft took over because there's no record of me ever buying the game, so I've got to buy it again now, but the Minecraft website won't accept my card for some stupid reason.

Guess i'll have to stick to the 90-minute demo then.

You're not the only one that got hit with that account loss. While I was fortunately spared, I'm sorry that yours was lost. Did you try contacting Mojang and addressing the issue to them?

I really don't care that much. I was just annoyed that I can't play the game how I want to without dropping another $35 on it.
