It's not just a hole in the ground. The abandoned mine contains lessons in geology, tunnel support engineering, history, and more. It can be costly and dangerous to go exploring, so for many enthusiasts it's more practical to watch videos of it online.

Here are some explorers I have been following:

Exploring Abandoned Mines is a Canadian wild man who explores from Canada to Mexico trying to find the best shafts. Nice approach.

The host of Mine Explorers will investigate the mines thoroughly, even at his own peril. He is a minor personal lolcow, as he sometimes fills his silence with complaints about social media hecklers or the YouTube algorithm. Can be abrasive with his companions at times.

Abandoned and Forgotten Places AKA "Gly" produces lengthy videos with somewhat flamboyant production style. Sometimes brings along a mysterious "Mr. M" who refuses to be identified.

Tom and Julay are a husband and wife expeditionary team who started exploring mines in more recent years. I have not seen much yet, but they seem to be doing a good job.

Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places still produces videos but they are mostly short and low-risk. Most notorious for perpetrating ghost hoaxes.

If you have any painful gossip about these people or other mine explorers that I should know of, please share it here.

I love these guys theyre great, didn't know about the ghosts hoaxes though.

I did not question the first two ghost videos, but a YouTube automaton found that the third video (the TN12 flashlight advertisement) had a "spooky whispers" sound effect borrowed from a stock sounds channel. Myth busted.

However:

The Science Channel experts on "Strange Evidence" agreed that the earlier video was a legitimate haunting, so there. Hmmm.
