For mixed race black/whites or mulattos, many things in life aren't clear, but one thing sure is: They will never pass as white. What is left for them to do is either go about in life as strictly biracial, or try to get into what is nowadays referred to as the "black umbrella" for a sense of racial identity/community. Many choose the latter, however, that doesn't always pan out well.
There is a large subsection of African Americans who are very proud to be black, and feel that mulattos appropriating their culture is erasing them. Some examples of their distaste towards halfbreeds:
Blvck genocide
Never racemix but black
The erasure of true black women
Black trenders
Outsiders might be confused about this, as usually, black people seem to claim anyone with a drop of black in them as black. The truth is simple, it can go both ways. Very sucessful mulattos will be revered as black icons and the pinnacle of black excellence, especially if they look black enough (see Obama). However, if a mulatto says or does some not-good-for-PR things, suddenly they were never black, and it's their devilish colonizer heritage and white mother that corrupted them.
The attitude towards mulattos usually leans slightly to the latter side, unless truly capable of acting Black enough. A lot of them are aware of it and not too happy about it.
Some mulattos will go as far as to hate the white part of themselves
Yet, even after the open denial, the yearning for a community is strong. A lot of mulattos will fight to be seen as black and be accepted within the black community, like the example that was displayed above.

Yes this entire sub is dedicated to crying about being mixed race, it's like these people never had a positive experience in their lives.
Either way, if any of you want more juicy insider mixed race info you could just ask, I'm a mutt. Though I'm Evropean and a lot is different about race from how it is treated in the US.
