🐱 More College's Are Adding Competitive Gaming As A Major

The yell from the basement, rings out: “Shut up, mom… I’m trying to get a scholarship.”
Incels unite.
The University of North Dakota says it will be the first in the state’s postsecondary schools to offer a bachelor’s degree in competitive gaming.
Oh, hell yes. I’d not just good at CoD, I’m in training?

North Dakota’s State Board of Higher Education recently approved the Bachelor of Science degree in esports at UND. The university has been developing esports for a couple years, including establishing varsity level competition in which students compete against their peers across multiple game titles… which is a pretty wild sentence, but coolcoolcool.

The school also introduced an esports coaching minor in the fall of 2020… which means gamers also need coaches? Is that the same line of “if you can’t do, teach” … cuz, like… if you are the same age, why is one of yall coaching? Is that the best player? Why isnt he playing?

Both the esports major and minor are offered in College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Kinesiology. UND says the new program has a core focus in sport performance, but is ultimately interdisciplinary between kinesiology, public health, sport business, computer science and communication, KVLY-TV reported.

“Esports is a booming industry,” said Sandra Moritz, program director and professor of kinesiology and public health education. “Competitive gaming is something that is here to stay, and there are many career areas in the field – everything from playing to coaching to broadcasting. Our program is drawing from a variety of departments to create an all-inclusive approach for this degree.”

The major will be offered online and on campus following its fall semester launch… which is perfect since the kids won’t want to leave their dank basement.

Haha get fucked eAthletes. You might be doing eSports, but even universities have admitted they only want you if you're paying them like some women's studies major. They won't let you in to study something normal then give you a scholarship to play for them like a real sports athlete.

I guess universities realized they can grift men just as hard as women. But even if this increases the male population, the increase will be in low earning soy, not chiseled rich lawyerbros.

This won't fix the sex ratio in higher education and it won't get women to stop bitching about the drought of eligible (high status) men.

Is this article telling me that in the time since Gary Larson did his "Optimistic Parents" cartoon and now, some university is actually trying to make it a reality?

By the time they finish schooling for it, they will be old enough that they'll start losing reflexes etc lmfao what a great scam
It's a college. The curriculum will probably be more about how to use your mouth to scream appropriately on TeamSpeak than how to use your hands to control the game. You know, "#DieCisScum and" You're a white male! YOU FUCKING WHITE MALE!" instead of glownigger faggots.

They'll still be plenty capable of performing the tasks they trained for. Those tasks just won't be winning any games.

This is going to be the male equivalent of x-studies. You want your school to have a team, that's fine, I guess. But having it as a class is silly; there's going to be a bigger disconnect in this "field" than than already are in the hard sciences between the academic side and the actual field work side... and something tells me this will become a dumping ground of the "those who can't do, teach." Because even when big names are no longer relevant or winning tournaments, they still make thousands to millions on Twitch/Youtube doing their own thing, and given how games can be hot one day and cold the next, there's gonna be a lot of out-dated information on a year by year basis.

That's my well thought out and academic take.

Obligatory, college is a scam and gay.

My polytechnic school offered a major in game design. I knew several people who went to do that after having trouble with CS, and then when they realized that they still had to write code, they went for a communications major so they could write for vidya or some shit. There was also a competitive eSports team, but that was mostly populated by people with actual majors. I can't imagine actually majoring in this shit, this is absolutely a scam. It reminds me of the game design major that was offered, there certainly weren't any studios recruiting at our job fairs. I had trouble keeping my tongue held around these game design wannabes, I can't imagine the shit I would have said to an eSports major.
