The majority of gender-confused children grow out of that feeling by the time they are fully grown adults, according to a long-term study.

Researchers in the Netherlands tracked more than 2,700 children from age 11 to their mid-twenties, asking them every three years of feelings about their gender.

Results showed at the start of the research, around one-in-10 children (11 percent) expressed 'gender non-contentedness' to varying degrees.

But by age 25, just one-in-25 (4 percent) said they 'often' or 'sometimes' were discontent with their gender.

The researchers concluded: 'The results of the current study might help adolescents to realize that it is normal to have some doubts about one’s identity and one’s gender identity during this age period and that this is also relatively common.'

It comes amid a massive boom in transgender children receiving drugs to change their gender in the US - as critics say doctors and parents are not challenging young people enough.

Patrick Brown, a fellow at the conservative Ethics and Public Policy Center who was not involved in the research, told DailyMail.com: 'This study provides even more reason to be skeptical towards aggressive steps to facilitate gender transition in childhood and adolescence.

'The fact that rates of satisfaction are lower even just a few years later suggests that for the vast majority of people, prudence and caution, rather than a rush towards permanent surgeries or hormone therapies, will be the best approach for teenagers struggling to make sense of the world and their place in it.

'As such, policies that prohibit gender transition for minors make a great deal of sense.'

The study is one of the longest into the issue of gender in children - but the researchers point out it has some limitations.

For one, it looked at a mixture of children from the general population and kids who were receiving mental health care - though not specifically for anything related to their gender.

Therefore it does not necessarily reflect the attitudes of children clinically diagnosed with gender dysphoria.

The researchers, from the University of Groningen, analyzed the data of 2,770 people who were part of the Tracking Adolescent's Individual Lives Survey.

Participants were asked to respond to the statement 'I wish to be of the opposite sex' at six different points over 15 years.

They were given a multiple choice: 0-Not True, 1-Somewhat or Sometimes True, and 2-Very True or Often True.

The same prompt was given every two or three years from the start of the study in March 2001 until the end.

Researchers looked for those expressing 'gender non-contentedness,' or unhappiness with being the gender aligned with their biological sex.

The study, published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, found that overall 78 percent of people had the same feelings about their gender over the 15 years.

Around 19 percent became more content with their gender and just about 2 percent became less comfortable.

Participants were also asked to evaluate their self-worth by rating how they felt about their physical appearance and self esteem.

According to the findings, females were more likely to report being unhappy with their gender and both increasing and decreasing 'non-contentedness' were associated with lower self-reported self worth, more behavioral problems and an increase in emotional struggles.

The authors said: 'Gender non-contentedness, while being relatively common during early adolescence, in general decreases with age and appears to be associated with a poorer self-concept and mental health throughout development.'

Brown told DailyMail.com: 'As anyone who has ever been a teenager knows, puberty and its aftereffects can be a confusing time of hormonal surges, physical changes, and social insecurity.

'It isn't surprising that the highest rates of being dissatisfied in one's body would peak during this time.'

Rates of gender dysphoria, a clinical diagnosis by a healthcare professional that differs from gender non contentedness, have soared in every US state except one since 2018 - with the average age of diagnosis trending younger.

An analysis of insurance claims conducted by Komodo Health Inc found between 2017 and 2021, approximately 121,880 children aged six to 17 years old were diagnosed with the condition.

In 2021, 42,000 were given the diagnosis, a 70 percent increase from 2020.

And children under 18 years old now make up one-fifth of new diagnoses each year.

In the United States, 1.6million people ages 13 and older identify as transgender.

A report by the health data analytics firm Definitive Healthcare shows the rate of gender dysphoria increased in every state except South Dakota from 2018 to 2022 across all ages.

The sharpest rises over those five years were seen in three Republican-led states: Virginia (274 percent) Indiana (247 percent) and Utah (193 percent).

South Dakota saw a decline of 23 percent between 2018 and 2022.

Meanwhile, the report also found the number of sex change surgeries being carried out each year is rising rapidly - climbing by up to 40 percent in some years.

Greater social acceptance and increased awareness about the condition on the part of doctors can partly explain the increase in cases.

Unlike other countries, such as the UK, there is no federal lower age limit for when children can get 'top' or 'bottom' operations in the US, which leaves it up to the states.

In The Netherlands, debate over the issue has ramped up as more Dutch experts have voiced their concerns over the potential adverse effects of puberty blockers and hormonal therapies for minors who wish to transition.

And in the US most recently, trans rights were thrust into the spotlight after critics slammed President Joe Biden for declaring Easter 'Trans Visibility Day.'

However, the president said he did not make this declaration, but that the awareness day is celebrated every year on March 31 and only coincided with Easter this year by chance.

Dr Jay Richards, director of the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family, told DailyMail.com: 'We’ve known for over a decade that most kids who experience distress with their sexed bodies resolve those feelings after they pass through natural puberty.

'Indeed, we can infer from the DSM 5 [2013] and other sources that as many as 88 percent of gender-dysphoric girls and as many as 98 percent of gender-dysphoric boys in previous generations desisted if allowed to go through natural puberty.

'These two facts make it clear why “gender-affirming care” on minors is such an outrage. It leads, in the end, to sterilization and in many cases to a complete loss of natural sexual function.

'There is no good evidence that this helps minors long term. Moreover, it medicalizes what could very well be temporary psychological symptoms.

'History will judge this medicalized “gender-affirming care” on minors as we now judge eugenics and lobotomies.'

The research was published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior.

Yes, they have to study the gender confused non-trans because they exist. Put on your empathy hats and imagine a world in which the concerns of someone else besides transgender people actually matter!

All the replies break down to is an explanation why stringent medical gatekeeping is needed. If this was paired with, "And so that is why we forcefully oppose people who say self-id is the only requirement..." then we might have a situation people could live with. Since instead it's paired with keeping self-id with zero explanation of how the two positions can reconcile, my only reply has to be, "Go fuck yourselves." They are trying to strip away all this gatekeeping, when what we need is more and better.

Two groups exist:

1. Those who will grow out of it.
2. Those who won't grow out of it.

Our approach needs to account for both groups, with the understanding that most kids will be in group 1. That is, most gender confused kids, not just most kids in general. That means that attempts to eggbreak are most often going to be attempts to groom kids into a mistake. Your classroom lecture about gender id is going to induce confusion and provoke a delay in realizing a true identity for the group 1 kids, for the alleged benefit of helping out the much smaller group 2 kids.

Group 1 kids are susceptible to social contagion. Group 2 might not be, but GROUP 1 IS MUCH BIGGER (EVEN AMONG GENDER CONFUSED KIDS, NOT JUST MOST KIDS). Transgender people want a policy that will maximally benefit group 2 kids while assuming that stuff for group 1 is just going to work itself out, but we have documented cases of detransitioners post-surgery so we know it isn't currently working out. The policy that treats EVERYONE as human beings is going to include a lot of room in it to tell a kid, "No you're not," when they claim to be the other gender. This is both because it will be true for most of them, but also because that is a way to test who is insistent, consistent, and persistent and who is not. This is not compatible with total self-id respect. It's not compatible with online eggbreaking where challenging (trans but not cis) gender ID is a hate crime and it's impossible to test persistence, insistence, and consistence.

Was Dagny Benedict insistent, persistent, and consistent about her identity? It really doesn't sound like it based on what little information we have. Nobody is clear on if her preferred pronouns were she, they, or he. Consistent? She didn't object to the school officer using, "She". Her family seemed quite happy to call her Dagny and not "Nex." Is this persistent and insistent?

Is that stopping the transgender propaganda machine for even a second from proclaiming her a transgender martyr? Did the transgender movement ever help to put material in front of her during her time in school or in their online haunts that may have challenged her to accept a female identity and to consider other possibilities for the root of her problems? Have we considered the possibility that she needed group 1 solutions instead of group 2 solutions? It doesn't seem like persuading her and her school and her doctors to accept the Group 2 identity did a single fucking thing to make her life healthier to me.

Earlier research reached a similar conclusion.
Your stat seems better than whatever they chose for the top of the article:
  • 11 percent of adolescents reported being unhappy with their gender
  • 19 percent who reported unhappiness as kids no longer expressed it as adults
That makes it sound like the majority DO NOT grow out of it. Am I reading it gay?

Kids have it tough nowadays. It used to be that when you had a weird phase depending on how permissive/shitty your parents were the best case scenario was that you just had really embarrassing photos of that time in your life, worst case you had shitty tattoos and piercings. Shitty piercings and tattoos can at least be removed, what are kids who took body-altering drugs or even went the whole way and chopped their cock off for boys or tits off and had a frankendick made out of thigh meat for girls gonna do?

In other breaking news, water is wet and traps are gay, more breaking news at 11!

I remember there was a guy that was a tranny specialist before anybody gave a shit about trannies that stated exactly this, that the grand majority grew out of it and usually were confused gays. He had a clinic dedicated to it. Then the church of trannydom surged and he became haram and everybody stopped giving a shit about his actual practical experience. Anybody know who I'm talking about?

Basically, this shit has been known for ages and it got smothered because in this case pharma needed to push it's bullshit (same deal with ivermecting "horse dewormer" when the fucking thing was already used in tons of stuff and got a fucking Nobel prize).

This is why the troons want to rush the hormones and surgery on kids, they want the 1 in 10 to mutilate themselves and have no choice before they realize it was just a phase and declare they are no longer trans, it's sheer numbers, they want to capture and convert 1 in 10 kids, not 1 in 25 teens and adults.

Then when the ones who regret getting the chop and off themselves the troons can callously use their suicides to beef up their "marginalized and opressed" rhetoric, while the ones who don't kill themselves are trapped in the troon community because they know that they are now a freak, and no one outside the trans community will ever love them.

They scream that not allowing children to mutilate themselves and take hormones is "genocide" because in a sense it is, the only way they can "reproduce" is to find a vulnerable young victim and trick them into making an unfixable mistake. By taking away early transitions we are limiting their ability to produce more deranged "allies"

Implying that the 1 in 25 wouldn't be just as discontent in the opposite gender, let alone as the frankenstein in between of being born as one and then trying to transition to the other gender. The real number for whom this solution helps is probably like 1 in 1000 at best.

This is just another case of the art of the deal applied to gender. They say 1 in 10 should have it, there is pushback so only 1 in 25 gets it and that is still overprescription by 4000%

we’ve known for a long time that kids ‘confused about gender’ tend to grow out of it. Puberty can be a weird and confusing time, the entire process is turning you from a compliant child into an adult with their own identity - it’s completely normal to be asking who you are and to be looking around at society and thinking some bits you like and some you don’t. For both sexes there’s confusing hormones flying around and for girls there’s also the fact you now attract male sexual attention in a way you previously didn’t over a very short span of time. It’s a lot to deal with, even for a child in a caring and sensible family.
SRS should be banned completely. Nobody can become the opposite sex.

No fucking shit. Puberty sucks, a lot. And all those hormones surging makes you angry and sad and the realisation that you’re changing forever and will grow up to be an adult with actual responsibilities is pretty daunting. Everyone starts to smell, you get hair in weird places, you bleed; it’s just all confusing and gross lmao. But kids need to be reminded that all of it is perfectly normal, that puberty and growing up isn’t a big scary monster!

does not necessarily reflect the attitudes of children clinically diagnosed with gender dysphoria
Actually even in clinically diagnosed children this remains true.
One study

A second study
IMG_7535.jpeg

And these would not be able to be declared transphobic and false as the children did have a diagnosis- not that the diagnosis matters right now anyway, that’s Gatekeeping.

They always do these mental gymnastics to explain away any study with findings they don't like. I recall them screeching about the study in which the parents of trans/NB kids said that as soon as one kid in the friend group started identifying as genderspecial, the rest of the kids followed soon after, which would indicate a high degree of social contagion. "UHM, well ACKSHYALLY, they weren't asking the kids, but the bigoted parents, therefore the study is meaningless!!1!" If you indulge kids in this way, and let them do whatever they want, you're going to end up with loads of socially maladjusted adults. These fucking people, I swear to God...
