Twitter users will face new limitations on the number of tweets they can view per day, according to a tweet from the company’s billionaire owner Elon Musk on Saturday.

“To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits,” Musk tweeted, before announcing that verified accounts would be limited to reading 6,000 posts per day, unverified accounts to 600 posts per day and new unverified accounts to 300 posts per day.

Before Musk unveiled Twitter’s new policy, users were met with a message reading “rate limit exceeded,” when trying to view content. Enough users were confused by the alert that “#TwitterDown” was trending in the U.S. on Saturday morning.

The announcement is the latest in a series of major changes for the social media company, including the appointment of a new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who took over the role from Musk in June. Upon her appointment, Musk tweeted that Yaccarino would “focus primarily on business operations,” while he would stay focused on “product design & technology.”

Musk also made waves last week as he appeared to agree to a fight against Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Musk on Friday tweeted “some chance fight happens in Colosseum,” after reports that Italy’s minister of culture reached out to the two tech giants offering to coordinate the fight at the historical site.

Uh this is stupid. I follow less than fifty accounts some of them are addicted to Twitter and will retweet all sorts of stupid shit. Like scrolling through 300 posts would not take long. Now imagine an account who follows more or is using it to read on a news story/topic.
I'm taking a bet that this will be overturned by the 4th of July.

Everytime I see Musk doing something I'm reminded that his extreme wealth is generational stemming from South African blood diamond mines because man is this guy not bright and someone who makes terrible business decisions.

Musk is one of the few people that actually makes me seriously consider the political left's point that money alone should not guarantee power or influence.

He is not smart, not even a little bit.

Yes, and my oh my is it beautiful.
I love a good trainwreck.

You do realise that many artists post their art primarily to twitter and viewing 300 pictures in a day is no biggie? (Is this a Pixiv revival in the making?)
That’s a very good point. God, Twitter artists just keep getting shafted left and right. Also their community has unfortunately a bad rep what with all the grooming and weird pedo stuff with the fandom.

There’s nothing more painful to watch than a guy attempt to shitpost and be edgy and utterly fail at it. It’s like a retarded AI program studied /b/ posts from 2010 and tried to recreate that vibe.

Damn, either Elon must be huffing some of the good shit, there's still saboteurs among Twitter staff, or some outside actors are really trying to test Twitter's (lack of) capability.

Still not interested in signing back up for it just to view the salt being generated by Twitter addicts, though.

Do we know what role the new CEO had in this new decree? Does Musk still make all the big decisions regarding policies and whatnot?

Your guess is as good as mine! I wouldn't doubt the new WEF-aligned CEO bitch may have a hand in this too but there's no real way to tell right now, not while Twitter seems to be under digital siege.
