The difference is, he's trying to wall the garden. Twitter used to be something people used to drive traffic to other services. He wants people using only twitter, which is why he's launching all these competitors for things like youtube and paying people to tweet.
As an aside, I'm mad that he's obsessed with X instead of Y. He could have renamed them yeets.

Cow-crossover potential here, this has come out of Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s election theft attempt.
Basically, back in January and February, after Musk had taken over, Twitter was ordered to produce all of Trump’s user data including DMs, location data, device IDs and whatever else. Which they would of course comply with normally, but instead went to huge legal lengths to block, to delay, and to warn Trump, apparently due to Musk wanting to curry favour or gunt.guard.
In the end they were forced to produce everything.
Twitter’s lawyers got a shoeing from the judge.
Judge: “WTF are Fleets?”
