Regarding the news that Musk is backing out, I do hope this is gamesmanship on his part. Twitter stock will certainly plummet, and there will be securities class action lawsuits.

One way or another, Twitter and other woke big tech shitstains need to be brought to heel. If the GOP ever gains power with a competent executive, a law slapping common carrier restrictions on these and other venues is the best possible option.
That's still my vibe, but I'm way out of my depth on this acquisition law shit to be able to guess. Ass-blasting them to the fullest extent possible and then being "forced" to make the deal and take ownership anyway would be the best possible scenario for the troonpocalypse.
Besides both the comedy and stock value it sets up a very clear delineation between the old and new regime if they can drag as much dirty laundry out into the open as possible beforehand, compared to glowies and dangerhairs pretending he's making it up if they take over and expose shit afterwards.

Even if it's just some sort of opportunistic drive-by this has still been a good episode, but that'd be much funnier.

I mean, if nothing else, Elon getting the Twitter board to beg a judge to please force Elon to buy Twitter is pretty funny. If that isn’t a vote of no confidence for the current management I don’t know what is.

There is nothing more fun that can possibly happen than this all going down in the Delaware Court of Chancery. Oh please, let this happen.

I don't even care who wins.
Why so? Not familiar with this court and its shenanigans.

Imagine how badly it goes for Twitter if its shareholders figure out how completely worthless those shares are, and how much fraud was committed to prop up the price they paid.

Can you say "derivative suit?" Because I can.

Since you're the resident law shitposter around here let me ask you, is there any reasonable legal scenario where its reasonable for Twitter to refuse to hand over data from someone looking to buy the company?
is there any legal reason they would need to hide info? (besides personal user data)
Because i can't figure out why they wouldn't just hand over the data Musk requested unless it somehow incriminated the entire company

Wait till the companies who bought ads start to sue

What exactly is a derivative suit?
This is my favorite idea, that he literally just did this to fuck with them.
I think he's going to buy twitter, for pennies on the dollar after this drawn out court battle. If the Republicans win control of one or both houses of Congress, twitter will be investigated.

I'm by no means an expert in US law, so excuse me if this is a retarded line of thinking. Could this all be a play to get Twitter to have to disclose their bot/fake account numbers in legal documentation under oath?

Most likely, but it will tank the stocks too, making them almost worthless. That's my opinion on what's gonna happen.

Don't disclose the full reports? How about I tank your stocks and make a lower offer.

I have my suspicions why he did it but they are unsubstantiated

He did it to sell insanely overvalued Tesla stock to gullible morons then pocket the (billions of dollars' worth) change when he was inevitably 'forced' to back out of the deal by shady, evil Twitter overlords.

Musk never wanted to buy Twitter. Well, actually, he definitely did, because he's a power-mad wannabe transhumanist Syndicate Wars style dictator with a desperate desire to control the narrative. But there's a difference between that and any legitimate desire to take on the responsibility of running one of the world's largest social media platforms, especially one whose userbase utterly despises him and wants him to fail.
